Bruce's Story
Life
Right after high school I started at Ball State. It took some time before I realized I did not really want to be there.
I joined the Navy (avoiding the draft) in 1970 and spent the next ten years with them. Almost a full year in school at Great Lakes, then two and an half in the Philippines, back to school and on to Sigonella, Sicily for two and a half more. I then went to Jacksonville, FL and was sort of planning to stay but the Navy wanted me to go to a ship in Hawaii. Who was I to complain? Turns out they wanted more years than I was willing to give so I got the USS Coral Sea out of Alameda, CA.
I found that the "new" electronics craze was happening in "Silicon Valley" so when I left the Navy, our hero stayed on, with no place to live nor a job. It took a few weeks as everyone wanted digital experience and I was analog.
I finally found a job. I stayed with...Expand for more
the Navy Reserve for the next twelve years, retiring in 1992. I don't get the money yet but, it is on it's way.
I started with SRI International in 1983 and married my wife in 1984. She had a daughter from a previous marriage and we have one daughter together. This year (2009) we are celebrating twenty-five years together. Funny as most of our friends only gave us six months back then.
The youngest is graduated high school in 2004 and ended up joining the Marines. She got married to another marine and they are at Twenty-nine Palm, CA now. No kids yet!
The oldest is still at home going to community college.
We are living in the San Francisco Bay area and are looking to retire somewhere up in Colorado but since the melt down we have a few more years.
I work as a systems administrator and Margaret is a registered nurse in an Emergency Room at a county hospital nearby.
