Bryan's Story
There was a degree (University of Virginia), a career (architect), a simultaneous second career (nightclub DJ), a life partner (Jonavon Hamrick), a new home/car/dogs (in Atlanta), immeasurable loss (Jon's death), tremendous depression (why him and not me), bizarre experiences (managing a traveling troupe of drag queens for Southern Comfort), incredible satisfaction (seeing something I designed get built and used by thousands every day), phenomenal highs (looking at a dance floor of 500 people in London or Brighton or Capetown and knowing that I put them all there), and a...Expand for more
love for travel (that has taken me to 21 countries on 6 continents).
Despite my natural timidity, I somehow found the b***s to travel southern africa alone, to jump out of an airplane, to go alone to countries where I don't speak the language and generate friends/business, and to successfully convince the immigration officer that there was nothing unusual about me flying 12,000 miles to New Zealand for a 48 hour visit.
It hasn't been easy, at times it has seemed impossible, but it has been my life. All in all, not a bad first half.
