Byron's Story

The Past, The Present, The Future The Past: Some may not remember me at Permian. I was born in Odessa but did not grow up there. My father was transferred frequently and I ended up moving nine times during the first fifteen years of my life. I transferred to Permian High from Monahans High in 1969. I played on the Permian High golf team. After graduating in 1971 from Permian, I attended college at Odessa Jr. College and then received my B.S. in Microbiology at Texas Tech University in 1976. I moved to Midland and started working for a pharmaceutical company as a sales representative. After tired from dealing with doctors for a year, I felt that I should be in the oilfield where I had worked in the summers while in college. That marked the beginning of my career with the service companies specializing in hydraulic fracturing, a process used to increase the production in oil and gas wells. My first position and training was in El Dorado, Texas. I was then promoted to Technical Sales and was transferred to Midland in 1978, and in 1979 I transferred to Houston. In 1992, I left the service company and started a career working for Santrol which supplies the service companies with the special sands that are used in hydraulic fracturing. From 1992 to 1999 I was the Director of Marketing and Sales Latin America, where I traveled throughout Mexico and South America promoting and technically supporting our products. During this time I was spending up to six months per year in Venezuela, a great life experience, but a lot of lost time with my young family. From 1999-2001, I transferred to a sister company in League City, Texas where I was tasked with running the...Expand for more
company and getting it in shape to be sold. I then returned back to Santrol in 2001 and was placed in charge of Canada until 2007 when I was asked to take control of all international marketing and sales as the International Business Development Manager. I now travel all over the world performing market studies, conducting technical seminars, and training and technically supporting our international representatives. My travels total some 200,000 air miles per year. The Present: My wife, Tricia, and I married in 1980 and we currently live in Magnolia, Texas just north of Houston. We have raised three sons, ages 21, 24, 26. Our oldest son, Jason, is married to Amanda, and is a Methodist preacher. Our middle son, Robert, is still exploring his options. He was once married and has blessed us with two beautiful granddaughters, Emily 7, and Kindell 4. He works and lives near by. Our youngest son, Sean, is a deputy with Walker County in the Huntsville area. Tricia and I share many common interests and dreams. Several years ago, we began working with horses and cattle. We now have two ranches located north of Houston where we keep our horses on one and cattle on the other. We spend as much time in the country as possible, considering the amount of traveling that I (we) do. Tricia travels with me on several trips per year. The Future: After retiring, we had planned on seeing the world together. My current position now allows us to achieve that goal. I will continue with this current position until the end of 2012 or 2013 when we plan on retiring. Tricia and I will then move to our ranch in North Zulch, Texas and continue spoiling our grandkids.
