Byron's Story
Hey all,
Well, where should I start? After two high schools (I began at L.A. University High School from '78 - '80 and then moved during my senior year to Pomona and graduated from Ganesha High School in '81) and two colleges (began at Whitworth College from '81 - '83 and transferred to University of Redlands (CA) fall of '83 and graduated in '85 with a B.A. in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Physical Education), I worked in different places - spent one year with the City of Ontario (CA) Parks and Recreation Dept. as a Recreation Leader; one year as a Research Technician for U.S. Borax Corporation in Anaheim; and four years as a Research Assistant for UNOCAL's Research and Technology Division in Brea, CA before answering the call to ministry in the Presbyterian Church USA. I packed up and went to the South where I earned the Master of Arts in Christian Education from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA ('94) and the Master of Divinity from the Internominational Theological Center/Johnson C. For the last 12 years, I have been the pastor of Davie Street Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, NC. I got married late (at 35) for the first time to my lovely wife Regina and we have been married for 9 years. We have one son, Andrew, who is five years old and is all boy - and in kindergarten!! Oh, how fun!! Life is well and although I miss MANY things about the west coast, I have peace of mind here.
I do a lot for the church but I have been fortunate to travel around the world (Haiti, Brazil, West Africa (Ghana), etc.), which I really love. In my free time, I go the the gym to workout and do lots of reading and spending time with my family.
I would love to hear from some of you from time to time. I want to give a special shout-out to all from Whitworth (that place meant SO MUCH to me!!), U of R peeps (Cal-Founders and Anderson Halls especially as well as my EMBO brothers), any Track and Field people, Black Student Union folk or anyone who just want to connect from the past whether we were friends, acquaintances or just on recognition of faces!!
