Caarol's Story
Lets see, where to begin? Ok, short and sweet; got maried 3 wks after graduation 7/14/62; on 6/5/63 had a baby boy born in Hawaii; we lived in Hawaii for 1.5 years; husb. got shipped to Adak, Aleutian Isl. (cold war duty). A year later we were shipped to Norfolk, Va; Lived there till 1967; got divorced and married a Marine...he got orders to Viet Nam and served 13 mos.; 4 years later, he left for his ex-wife and I returned to Bflo in 1972..Went to work for Erie County and retired on 6/9/95....25 yr pension (age, plus 2 yr. incentive for Tier one people and 23.5 yrs of service). While I was working for Erie county I also enlisted in the US Army Reserves , 365th Evac. Hosp. Unit, Niagara Falls, NY. I enlisted on 1/1/74 and served for 5 years, left as SPC 5 (E-5). In Jan. 1996, I moved to Arizona; went to Culinary School at Scottsdale comm. College Culinary Arts Prog. This was a dream of mine for years; unfortunately, I also began having terrible problems w/my lumbar spine; so I had to quit before I graduated and never got to open my restaurant. But all in all, things are good; I'm just now having my house painted, the swamp cooler fixed and all new duct work under the house for my central air/heat rep...Expand for more
laced. All this has to be done by May, prior to the 'haboobs, and hellish heat and monsoons". I also realized now, after being divorced for the past 8 years, that I like living alone...no one to 'boss me around anymore' or betray me. I'm much happier and healthier this way...I have the sweetest little dog, Lucy, that I just adore and she's a wonderful little friend.I also belong to Arizona Post #138, Riders, American Legion and I am the Service Officer there. Our new post is located in Tempe, AZ. about 3 miles from my house, and its beautiful...even has a huge swimming pool, and 2 bars, one by the pool and one inside the club.... The Riders host fund raisers for charities and children; this week is BIKE WEEK...there are so many bikes on the road now, and it's great to see them all having a blast...the weather is perfect right now....it only rains about 5 times a year...I volunteer at the Disabled American Veterans Post 22, which is about a mile from my home; I cook there from time to time ....I really enjoy that..we have great food there and cheap drinks and music from time to time. Well, that's pretty much it, left out some of the more 'scourging' details, but basically this is who I am now...Carol
