Cal's Story
While at KHS I was involved with M.L. Smith's debate team. Steve Cook and I graduated from Kearns with debate scholarships At Southern Utah University in Cedar city. Steve, by the way, is an attorney in SLC. We are still in contact. We make a trip to Vegas every summer.
I worked in radio, starting my sophomore year in college at the local commercial radio station, KSUB. I've worked mostly in southern Utah (Cedar City and St. George) but spent some time as a news director in northern California. I worked in the Advancement Office at SUU (fundraising) until about a dozen years ago when I took the position of station manager of KSUU -- the 10,000 watt FM station at Southern Utah University.
I teach a couple of radio classes at SUU -- and my students have done very well in state and national competition.
I was named outstanding male staff member at SUU in 1993-94. In 1998 I was named outstanding advisor -- and the radio station was named outstanding campus organization -- a feat duplicated in 2002.
