Calvin's Story

Life check out myspace /trublife Ask Calvin “DJ Trouble“Jones what his goal is in his musical career and he’ll simply say, “To make a timeless classic”. However, looking at his career, we come up against an even harder question: What hasn’t Trouble done? Now living in GA. Calvin is founder & owner of hip-hop label Trub-Life Entertainment and Glass Cage Recording Studio, the start of Trouble’s career is evident in a photo at the age of 12 standing in front of his turntables. Even at this young age, his love for music became his driving force that has taken him on a 16-year journey through the music industry providing him with fundamental knowledge and experience. Trouble’s experience includes production and engineering, professional DJing, retail sales, promotion and marketing, and distribution. In 1989 he started his first internship at Callipe Studios after completing the music engineering program at the Center for the Media Arts. However, it was his ambition to have his own studio that lead him to team up with friend and mentor, Tkae Mendez and open, “The Shack Recording Studios” in Harlem. It was there he met fellow engineers Carlos Bess and Chuco, known for their work with the Wu-Tang Clan, and developed his engineering skills, that he still uses today. . of the music industry. He went from working in retail at Downstairs Records to doing promotions for Amanda Sheer Demi for Car Wash Productions and later for major labels such as Electra, Arista, Tommy Boy and Cold Chilling Records. While doing promotions he worked as a professional DJ for P Diddy then known as Puff Daddy at the Red Zone and playing other industry parties alongside DJ Funkmaster Flex. While working as a DJ, he was asked to work for PWL America/Chemistry Records distributed by Polygram (Ed.O.G., Diamond D) as National Retail Sales Manager. It was there he learned the importance of distribution from his boss Robert John Jones and A&R Brian Chin. This knowledge would later help him when friend Saalam Remi asked him to distribute his label Northside Records. Today Trouble’s accomplishments not only include owning a record label and recording studio, but partnering up with R&B producer John “Jayd” Daniels under “Mystery Men Entertainment”, where he worked with such artist as E40, 3LW, Elephant Man, Jimmy Cozier, Amel Larrieux,Nicole Raye, D’mello and Mobb Deep. At the same time, he continues to develop artists and projects for Trub-Life Entertainment. "I had a love for music all my life and by the age 8, I knew I wanted to make records and being a Dj at that age was just the start i need to make it happen" -DJ Trouble .
