Candace's Story
Kindergarten in Portland, Oregon. Elementary School 1-8 in Gig Harbor.
Jr High in Los Alamitos, California.
High School in 29 Palms California.
College in Long Beach,California. (Interior Design)
College AGAIN in Boise, Idaho. (Secretarial School)1978
Dad died with heart attack.
Married in 1979 in Yuba City, California
Moved to Medford, Oregon 1981.
Worked as an Executive Secretary for an aircraft company in Medford for 3 years and then started my own professional sewing business. Had a dress on National TV in the Miss America Pageant. Miss Oregon took 1st Runner up! WOOHOO!
Had a daughter when I was 29, in 1986.
Got hit by a Semi Truck in 1991.
Spine damage...lots of surgeries.
Had a heart attack while slalom waterskiing in 2001 on Shasta Lake.
Husband self-absorbed. Drank too much and when I packed my bags to leave him in 1988 he quit, and hated me for it and treated me like dirt from there on out. Resentment.
Back to College in 2001 or 02 for Nursing. Made straight A's and decided after 3 grueling years and taking care of Mom getting dementia, me in pain all the time, and running my business, and daughter going to leave for college...time to chill. Back got worse. More surgery and quit college.
(10 major surgeries in all!)
I had a study partner that claimed to be my best friend through grueling nursing courses, and she got weirder and weirder and started hitting on me to the point where I had to excuse her from my life. Hubby apparently found that exciting.
I threw a clot and had a 99% blockage in my heart while I was waterskiing and had a full blown heart attack on our houseboat vacation on Shasta Lake, Hubby got MAD at me when he had to take his 50k boat across the lake in the dark to get me to ER in Redding, Calif. Good thing I took aspirin, or I wouldn't be here. That about ended the marriage for me. I knew I had no support and no best friend.
He gave me all kinds of lame excuses and as soon as I had had enough of them and his insensitivity and I moved out....he immediately moved in the wackjob study partner into my home.
I wish them the best in my house that I raised my daughter and lived in for 26 years. Put my 40ft pool in with my accident settlement and remodeled the house...Expand for more
that they are enjoying now. Cars and boats financed from my mother's estate, but ex said I didn't contribute to the marriage. NICE!!!(I would have never stayed in that One-horse town!)Anyway, that's a match made in hell and Karma will prevail in due time. I wish the best for them both. Maybe she will be #4 wife! If she were smart, she'd run. #2 Ex told me very sarcastically, "GOOD LUCK!"when I married him.
I'm sooo much better off. I am retired. I am soooo happy now with my Mom finally dying in 2008 and ending her suffering and my caregiving, and I'm away from the whole dysfunctional family that substituted alcohol for feelings to numb them. Never thought I'd be a divorce statistic after 28 years of marriage, but I only knew the guy about 3 months when I married him, and he'd already been married twice before! WHAT WAS I THINKING??? I did my best and we had a good life, but when your kids leave you realize that you married for the wrong reasons. I think I lived 28 years in denial that I had made the wrong decision in 1979.
I'm in Beaverton now. Made a full circle back to where my parents met here in Portland. My daughter is here.
I am happy. I watercolor and play Rock Band (when my back and shoulders allow it), and there's so much to do here. I love the internet, and reading, and decorating my townhouse, and cooking, art, music, gardening in pots, and sci-fi. I go to Gig Harbor frequently to see old friends, and I go to the desert in California as often as possible. I spend a lot of time with my daughter who is the Floral Manager at Safeway and in school full time to become an elementary teacher. I thought moving here would suck with the weather, but it's a beautiful city, and the summers have been HOT! More severe weather to come as we all head toward 2012 and the End of the Mayan Calendar.
It's not that life is short, it's just that we are dead for so long. LIVE IT TO THE FULLEST and BE TRUE TO YOURSELF AND YOUR WORTH. Cherish every moment, and happiness will prevail. I've never been happier in my life! Even my blood pressure and cholesterol say so! Stress will definitely kill you.
I think I'll take a nap now with my darling Chihuahua, Tiffy. And tomorrow will be another peaceful day.
