Candace's Story

A brief history...I transfered to VPHS from Sunny Hills High School for my junior and senior year. I was in GAA my junior year. I tried out for the Drill Team and made it. I never felt comfortable at school. My parents were divorced, we moved almost every year,we were very poor. My mom wouldn't have a TV or a phone in the house. I didn't know how to make or keep friends. I had a very low self esteem and was very lonely and afraid. A boy 'oinked' when I walked up for my diploma at graduation, that pretty much sums up my school experience. I wish to appologise to those that attempted to befriend me and thank you for times we did share, I just didn't have a clue. I dropped out of beauty college after washing a clients hair down the drain. Married in 1968 to a Marine, had a child in 1969, girl, and divorced in 1973 due to PTSD. My deppression was so deep I could barely take care of my daughter. My sister and a financal aide officer convinced me to go college and become a Registered Nurse. It was a struggle as I knew I wasn't smart or good enough. I graduated in 1975 and have been nusing ever since. I worked 13 years in ICU and was the Head Nurse for 5 of those years. I transfered to the Operating Room, specialized in 'Hearts' for 5 years, I now work in a Level 1 hospital OR. Back to affairs of the heart..I remarried in '84 to an abusive fellow, divorced '93 after much mental counseling. Empty nest and divorce had me rethink life and I vowed "to not do things because I was afraid to tr...Expand for more
y; but to not do things because I tried it and I didn't like it." As a result I now own a Harley Davidson Road King. As they say "live to ride, ride to live" My last ride, alone, in 2008 went from Portland Oregon to Portland Maine to Portland Oregon, 6 days over and 6 days back or an average of 500 miles a day. I met my current husband in '99, we married '02. We ride as often as we can, whenever we can. Our longest motor cycle trip took us to the Florida keys. I only had the one girl, she only had one girl. My granddaughter gave me a girl for my birthday in '08. For my 60th birthday I got a Liberty sidecar for my '02 Road King. Teachers are my heros. Then again the doctors and nurses that work at the Oregon Burn Center in Portland, OR see more and do more for the horribly burned patients than most of us will ever know and do it with a smile,God has blessed us with their presence. I lived in Fullerton, on Malvern, when I was at Sunny Hills and then 1800 Heim, Anaheim, off of Tustin Ave while going to Villa Park. I lived in Santa Ana, El Toro, Connell and Longview WA while married to Dennis Hilley. I lived in Longview while going to college. I bought my Grandmothers house in Silver Lake and raised my daughter there. I moved to Paso,WA with Ron Blood, husband #3. We took a year off from responsibility, traveled across the US and settled in Portland,OR My obsession is riding a motorcycle.June of 2008 I rode from Portlad OR to Portland MN to Portland OR by myself because I wanted to.
