Candy's Story

Life My name is Candy...Was Burton, now Cope. I went to Fairdale for one year, was bused to Shawnee the next year and then went back to Fairdale. The year I started Fairdale was the first year of the forced busing. Where all the west end kids were brought to our schools and we were sent to theirs. And Fairdale didnt like it one bit. I tell the younger generation and my kids the stories about what went on in school and they dont believe me. You couldnt get to the smoking area without a fight breaking out. A guy couldnt walk down the hall with his girl without someone saying something and then it was on. We had alot of walkouts, riots, bookburnings, You truly had to fight your way to your next class. Alot of times you got put in check real fast. It was Fairdale that taught me that you have to stand on your own two feet and take care of yourself, cause nobody's gonna do it any better than you will, not even mister right. Needless to say, not a whole lot scares me anymore. I remember alot of great times at Fairdale. My favorite memories are my best friends Star Thomas, Lori Delk and Marcella Cundiff. Marcella was killed in a car accident, Lori moved away to Florida, I think she has been there almost 20 years. I go see her from time to time and Star lives right down the street as always.... Me and Star use to get into so much trouble, cutting 4th period lunch to go up to Mitchell Hill or Tom Wallace park to get high, so we didn't have to deal with our teachers...OMG, I had so many fun times at the trailor parks on minors lane. Me and Paul, Marcella and Mike out on the big ditch in whatever car we could come up with, making out, fighting over who was gonna get the back s...Expand for more
eat this time, cause there was usually a gear shift in somebodies way...lol. That just makes me laugh. I love you Marcella. I miss those days and I miss you. I dont even think my name was known without my boyfriends name used with it. Paul Hoffman and Candy Burton. Those were good memories too. If anybody remembers the minors lane gang. I guess you could say Paul was apart of that. Terry Duke, Billyjoe Wilkerson, Mike Sims, Ronnie Majors, Billy Hoffman..Just to name a few so that you can picture it. So many friends have gone since those days, you hear through different ones that some of them have died of cancer or got addicted to some horrible drug, you never expect it to hit so close to home though. If anyone remembers my brothers Greg Demaree, and Mike Burton have both passed away of serosis of the liver. I miss them very much. The rest of us went to Fairdale as well, My brothers were Mike Burton, Lee Burton and Greg Demaree. My sisters were Michelle Burton.. aka..Mikki. and Dana Demaree. My oldest sister never went to Fairdale. I still live in Louisville I have Three Daughters and a son. They are great kids. I also have 11 granchildren. January and Jason are both grown and moved away from home and Jessika and Jordan are still with me. Jess is 24 now and Jordan is 15. Big gap in the age difference just means that it was one night of pure insanity..lol. If anyone would like to contact me, just to say hello you can friend request me on Facebook and can find me as Candy Burton. Make sure you tell me in a note that your from Fairdale, cause if i dont recognise you I wont approve it. I look forward to chatting with an old friend. Thanks for reading...much love Candy
