Candy's Story

Life I am back living in Magnolia. Been here since 93, just moved around alot. I have 4 beautiful children, Ashleigh-19yrs, Jenifer-14yrs, Michael-11yrs, & Jaryn-10yrs. The kind of work I do is Auto Interior Repair, I can make a leather seat with cuts in it look like brand new. As far as relationships go, I've been married twice, single now, have a male friend but I wouldn't say that I'm ready for commitment yet. Having too much fun being single. In my spare time I read stephen king books or I go to throw darts (which I'm very good at if I say so myself) You may remember me back in school as being pretty much quite and to myself, well times have changed!!! definently not me now. Can't keep me quite nowadays. I'm a happy person who is fun to be around, I like having drinks with my friends, meeting new people through my job, and my most favorite pasttime is going to the cafe in the mornings and drinking coffee with my friends. if you have any questions just ask, I'll be more than happy to answer . Workplace I left school and went to college for 2 1/2 years, had to quit due to illness( Dr. said I had probable MS (Multiple Sclerosis) very devestating to me at the time ) My whole outlook on life changed at that point. In school, I was very attentive in class wanted to exceed beyond my own expectations, after illness just didn't seem to care about anything, got real depressed, and pretty much gave up on myself. Because I had a scholarship from the Army when I quit college I now had to pay it back or join the Army, which I did. Learned a tremendous amount about life during my 2yr term. I then came back home or to Elgin,Tx, and waited tables and cleaned offices for quite awhile. Then a friend of mine convinced me to work with mentally challenged people. I loved it!!! I worked in the group home environment and in the workshop, basically helped teach clients how to deal with basic life skills,{brushing teeth, combing their hair, taking a bath, cooking, cleaning, etc...etc...} I did this for about 6 years. That took me into the nineties, by then I was in my second marriage and well on my way to having four kids. With my third pregnancy I was still working in the group home w/6 clients, on new years eve, while at work I had a miscarriage and was in the hospital for about a week. Pretty much ...Expand for more
gave up on myself again at that point. Went back to waiting tables for several years off & on. After I divorced my second husband in 1999, I started cooking,(short order cook in family style restaurant) And that brings me to the present...for the past 4-5 years I have been doing auto interior repair. I go to car dealerships around Houston, and fix the used cars to look like new. I actually love my jjob very much. I fix cigareete burns in cloth seats, repair leather seats that may have scrathes or raw spots to look like brand new, and then I dye the seats. I match the color by site, it takes a keen eye for color to do that. I think the reason I like this work so well is because I am pretty much my own boss, I take pride in a job well done(due to me being a perfectionist) and a feeling of helping somebody out. I will probably most likely continue doing this line of work for a very long time. I get to work outside, meet new people every day and the pay is pretty appealing as well. So that is the outline of my life in the workforce. Military I was enlisted for 2 yrs in the army. 1986 to 1988 Went to Ft. McClellan in alabama for boot camp, then traveled to Rantoul, Ill, at Chanute AFB, for AIT. Came out of that as a 51M (FIREFIGHTER) From there I traveled to YPG (Yuma Proving Grounds) in Yuma, Az. And stayed there the rest of my term. Loved being in the army< Hated the male chauvinistic attitudes from the civilian employees at the station. Just b/c I was 5'2 and weighed 110lbs did not mean I could not do my job. Which I proved over repeated # of times that I could do it. Two weeks before I was discharged, on my SQT test(Skills Qualification Test) I made a 98 out of 100, I believe I knew my sh_t. Anyway I got out of the army 2 weeks shy of my 2yr term, (Honerable Hardship Discharge) And that is the extent of my bout with the military. I met lots of wonderful people and alot of assholes, best friends were civilians Norman Pully and Jerry stafford, dated a guy : Clay Baker, he left before I did and went back to I believe Florida, we kept in touch a couple of times afterwards then lost touch with him. We were like mutt and jeff, he was real tall and i was so short. We would go to senators wash or Imperial Oasis to party. Norman,Jerry, and I would go on road trips on their motorcycles, I loved it.
