Debra's Story

After High School I attended a Business School while working for the LA Marriott Airport Hotel. In 1974 I met and married my first husband. He was still in the Army, and a returning Viet Nam Vet. At the time he was stationed at Fort Ord, in Monterey California. Soon after we were married he received orders for Germany. We lived in Germany from 1974 - 1978. I had the time of my life while being stationed in Germany. I worked for the civil service and traveled most of Europe. I loved every minute of it. I think my favorite place was the Netherlands. It was like something out of "Its A Small World" at Disneyland. My son was born in Frankfurt Germany in 1977, and my daughter was born after we got back to the states in 1979. After almost 17 years that marriage ended, but my children are a life long gift. I have no regrets. I married my current husband, New Years Eve "2005". He was a widower with 4 children and at the time, 2 beautiful grandchildren. Now between the too of us we have 9 adorable grandchildren ranging in ages from 13 years old to 9 months. I retired from the Chamber of Commerce in "2006". I was the Director of Program Development and Community Relations. That's a pretty title for someone who's a fundraiser, event planner, and a community social butterfly. Well, there was a little more to the job than just that, but I don't want to bore you. I can tell you that I miss my work and all the wonderful people I used to work with in the community; but I don't miss the stress or politics! I absolutely love being retired, most of the time. I can always find something to do around the home front. What I miss the most is the d...Expand for more
ay to day socializing with co-workers and clients. I'm sure if they would have been handing out grades in socializing when I was in High School, I would have ACED the class. I am, and always will be, a free spirit. Where ever I go, their I am. I love to travel, so when the mood strikes, I just pack my bags and off I go on a new adventure. I traveled many places by myself before I was remarried. Now I have a partner,(and part time photographer) to enjoy it with. Europe and Tahiti were outstanding, but I love traveling the USA. I get the itch to get outta Dodge much more than my hubby. When that itch isn't mutual...It's not unusual to see the girls in the family traveling together. Some of my favorite places are New Orleans, Manhattan, and the New England States. For those of you that are looking for someplace close to home. I recommend staying at the Pelican Cove Inn on Moon Stone Beach, in Cambria, CA. Ask for one of the Ocean Front Suites in the original building with a balcony on the 2nd. floor. When I need a quick fix. This is where I like to unwind. It is always a "Good for the soul" uplifting experience. What I know for sure is...Life is not a series of events, it's a journey. I've made some good choices, and some that weren't so good. I've laughed so hard I thought I'd cry, and cried so hard I thought I'd die. The secret... Is NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF! Like little "Dorothy", I'm just following the Yellow Brick Road of life. With all its surprises, twists and turns. I'm having one Kick Ass time doing it! Our time here on earth is very short. I hope all of you have taken the time to LIVE, LAUGH, AND LOVE.
