Carl's Story
About a year after high school I got a job with a number of my classmates with the US Forest Service as an Eng. Aid or surveyor of logging roads in Quincy. After doing this for a couple of seasons I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and got in the union for surveyors that is part of Operating Engineers local #3. I married for the first time just after joining the union and we raised two daughters. The younger one died from lung cancer in March 2008 at age 42...Expand for more
. My first wife had died after 30 years of marriage in 1992. After a 40 year career as a survey party chief on numerous construction and housing projects I retired in 2002. I enjoy hiking at least a couple of times a week, usually 8-10 miles each time, and lead hikes for the Sierra Club although I am not in to most their political agenda. I am currently engaged to be married but with no date set. Marriage was put on hold when my daughter died earlier this year.
