Life
Hey everyone! Candie Browning here, from the Class of '78. I've been busy since graduation (haven't we all?!), but for the last sixteen-plus years, I've been happily married to Carl Lee Johnson (Bellevue Class of '80), and we have three children (David Moonshower, and Jack and Chloe Johnson). We're grandparents now, too! David has a son, Blake Moonshower. I finally settled down and got to work on my dream of writing novels, and in 2004, I sold my novel for teenagers, THE LEGEND OF ZOEY, to Random House/Delacorte (writing as Candie Moonshower). It was published on July 11, 2006. Since last summer, I've been busy traveling and promoting the book at signings, writer's conferences and the like, which is both fun and a lot of hard work (promoting the book is harder than writing the book!). I'm hard at work on several new novels, for children and in the adult romance genre, and I'm pursuing some nonfiction work as well. I write monthly for BUSINESS TENNESSEE magazine, and I scored contracts for two magazines in the national market in 2007! ssue of THE WRITER, and I have another piece out in the 2008 edition of the CHILDREN'S WRITER'S AND ILLUSTRATOR'S MARKET called "Ten (Giant but Essential) Steps to Getting There." I recently sold a biography to a school library publisher, and it will be out in 2009. I'm very active with both the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI) and the Romance Writers of America (RWA). Other than that, reading is about my only hobby, when I'm not busy with my kids, which is about every breathing moment of the day (scouts, sports, music, dance, cheering, etc.)! I returned to school a few years ago and finished my bachelor's in Philosophy (that I began when I was young and foolish), and finished a bachelor's in English Literature as well. This year, I'll be defending my thesis and (if all goes as planned) receiving my master's degree in English Literature. David is a grown man now. He married his lovely fiancee, Jennifer, this month--and we're thrilled! My two youngest children are in middle and elementary school, so I'm finally writing full-time (my lifelong dream).
