Carl's Story
Carl's schools include New Hanover High School. He graduated from East Carolina University in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in both Psychology ad Sociology. He worked as the Assistant Director at Opportunities Incorporated in Wilmington NC until beginning graduate school works in the fall of 1967. He attended and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond Virginia with a Masters Degree in Social Work with an emphasis in Medical and Psychiatric settings in 1969. He spend the next 10 years working in Wilmington and Washington NC
with Mental Health Centers, eventually directing children and youth mental health services for a 5 county area.
In 1979, Carl became the Director of Stonewall Jackson Training School in Concord, NC. He was promoted to Director of Training School Services in 1984 which required him to move to Raleigh, NC. In 1985, he was lured away from State
Government and went to work for Lutheran Family Services as Vice President for Children Services. He worked for Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas until 2002 when he left his position as Senior Vice President overseeing 148 programs in NC & SC.
He reentered NC State Government in 2003 taking a position as Assistant Bureau Chief with the North Carolina...Expand for more
Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention overseeing the nine institutions for adjudicated youth in North Carolina. He retired in 2011 after working 42 years in his chosen profession.
Carl has been in the Martial Arts for many years as a student, Instructor, Referee, Competitor and on Promotion Panels. He has obtained the rank of Third Degree Black Belt in Karate, Judo and Jiu Jitsu operating schools in Wilmington, Washington, Greenville, N.C. and in Richmond Virginia.
He and his wife, Karen, a retired French Teacher also from Wilmington North Carolina Carolina have lived in Garner, North Carolina since 1985. They have one son, Adam who graduated from NC State lives in Garner as well.
Carl likes all kind of music and loves to dance..He likes discovering new the, going to movies & concerts. He loves to play golf, tennis and working out with weights and machines.
Carl has been very active in the church that he and his family are a member of. At First Presbyterian Church of Garner, he has taught Sunday School for over 25 years, served as a Deacon, Elder, President of the Men of the Church and has been honored as "Man of the Year."
