Barbara's Story
I live in Hawaii for over 19 years as the wife of US Navy submarine sailor. I earned an Associates of Arts from Leeward Community College in Hawaii. Since I become a widow in 1987, I have earned three degrees. At the age of 49, I completed a Bachelor of General Studies in Training Design and Development from The University of Dearborn. At the age of 54, I completed a Master of Public Administration in Nonprofit Leadership from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Both degrees are from The University of Michigan. I'm a creative problem solving consultant who discovered that I had to go to seminary and complete a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary, Dayton OH. I'm now serve on the ministerial staff of First African Baptist Church, the oldest Black church in North Ame...Expand for more
rica. It was constituted in 1777. Since also serving as a tour guide at the church, I have learned that the current building took four years of the membership working at night by enslaved Africans for enslaved Africans. Because of the information I have learned, I am writing a historical novel about the building of the current edifice.
On June 7, 2010, the young woman in her prom dress with me in my photo graduated from Cass Tech as the first of the third generation became a CT alum. Her mother, my daughter-in-law is a 1989 CT alum. Cass Tech staff and faculty are still doing great things.
On June 8, 2010, I took my granddaughter to my alma mater, The University of Michigan-Dearborn, to introduce her to staff who was there when i attended. She has been given a full-ride. God is so good.
