Carl's Story
Hi, here goes - I'm the Freshman Center Choir Director in Blue Springs. I have taught in Blue Springs going on 25 years (29 years overall), 18 at Blue Springs HS as the Choral Director. My school has students from both high schools in our community and has over 1200 students at it. I teach 4 auditioned choral courses a day, along with 2 fine arts credit courses and I coach Girls Track at Blue Springs High School in the Spring. I have been lucky enough to have traveled all other this country and Europe with music groups and I still love teaching.
My degree is actually in Instrumental Music, with Choral Music as my minor, but when I decided to move to the KC area, the Choral Position was available and I haven't gone away from because I've enjoyed it tremendously ever since. My undergraduate degree is from Central Michigan University and I took some graduate courses at the University of Michigan. I taught at St. Charles (about 10 minutes from Saginaw) for 4 years before moving to Blue Springs. My graduate degree is from UMKC in Music Education.
I have three children - Traci (age 24), a shift manager at Starbucks while going to school to get her RN who married a former student and they had their first child (my first grandchild) in June. Kelli (22), who works for Musician¿s Friend as a phone order person, but is searching for something a little more stable. Carl (age 17) is a Senior in HS, is built like a bean pole and is studying to be a Fireman/EMT. I am the custodial parent for Carl as the girls are living on their own. Their Mother lives in Branson, over 3 hours away.
