Carla Jo's Story
Revised 9-16-08
I moved to Arroyo Grande in 1983 and then to San Luis Obispo in 1986. After 15 years of 'pounding the pavement' for the U.S. Postal Service, I went P-O-S-T-A-L and was granted a medical retirement in 1998. This so-called retirement has given me a chance to pursue a life-long dream of mine. . . to educate myself for the sole purpose of expanding my horizons.
At our local community college, I was able to get a General Ed A.A., an A.S. degree in Math and Science and a certificate in Environmental Sciences. I attended Cal Poly and UCSB's Extended Ed Programs and received a Paralegal Certificate in 1995. In the Winter of 2005 I transferred to the College of Ag at Cal Poly and on September 8th, 2008 I turned in my Senior Project. oast at that time because of a world wide drought. So this find was pretty awesome they tell me.
Today, I lead hikes to the lighthouse in Avila Beach and am also a Lighthouse Keeper for it. We are currently restoring it to it's original design and get visitors from all over the world.
Our local hills are full of wildlife so I spend many hours on end hiking through them. Occasionally, I hop on my bicycle and dodge the tourists through the back roads. I've toured seven European countries by bicycle as-well-as Seattle and the San Juan Islands. I highly recommend it to everyone.
I miss Santa Paula and am fortunate enough to have parents still living there in the house I grew up in. They are both quite well for their age, active and doing fine. If you run into them, please say hello and let them know who your are. It always pleases them to hear from my fellow classmates.
It's always a pleasure to run into Santa Paulan's. So if you see me with Margie, Jane or my parents at Familia Diaz, please stop and say hello.
Until then . . . Happy Trails
