CLASS OF 1970

Carla's Story

For about seven years after I graduated from college, I sang professionally and wrote music in Houston and the San Francisco Bay area. I earnestly pursued a record contract, but finally realized that I wasn't wired for that kind of lifestyle. I did a bit of traveling to the UK, Israel, Malaysia, Canada, Mexico. I went back to Colorado, worked awhile and finally met Danny, my husband. He's also a musician and we've been playing and singing together for over 23 years. I stayed at home during my son's school years to homeschool him. Now we are financially contributing towards his education. Chronic migraines prevent me from holding down a job, but I'm still reinventing myself by learning how to paint and draw. I've discovered that I love writing, and it keeps me pretty busy. I'm about to finish the first draft of my first novel. I don't really care about chasing after an agent, publisher, etc. I never did like deadline crunches. I'm simply going to make it available to everyone for downloading onto some e-boo...Expand for more
k, after it's finished. The most precious treasure I have in this world is my family; my husband of 23 years, and my 22 year old son, who's majoring in Physics and in his fifth year at UW in Seattle. We've been living in the Seattle area for over 13 years. I am surrounded by towering evergreens year round, so much so that you can't see the horizon. We're also surrounded by deep, sprawling lakes, and the Puget Sound. Scenic beauty is everywhere you look, and it makes you feel like you are on a never ending vacation. The next precious treasure is my friends at the Friends (Quaker) assembly I attend in Seattle. I never thought such depth of relationship existed or was possible until I met these people. I am learning to be a better person, a better friend. It's taken me a while to grow up and mature to the point that I am grateful for my relationship with Jesus, family and friends. Now I know that these relationships enable me to stand, and cope with this world's crazy, indifferent systems. I truly am blessed.
