Carla's Story
I went into nursing after high school. Got married in 1977 to Ellsworth Helm. I joined the Air Force Reserve in 1978 as a flight nurse. My son Michael was born in 1979. Matthew was born in 1981. Ells and I divorced in 1988 and are still best of friends. I had a variety of jobs in nursing and maintained my reserve committment. I just retired March 1st as a Colonel with 30 years in the military and am currently working for a government contractor in Tampa. Since Sept 11th I was on active duty and worked overseas and at the U.S. Central Command Air Forces Headquarters as the Deputy Surgeon. We managed all of the Ai...Expand for more
r Force medical forces in the Middle East. I was also the senior consultant for all of the aeromedical evacuation forces in the theater. I am still coming off the military roller coaster and look forward to this next chapter of my life. My entire family is still in Sarasota and they have sustained me through the last 30 years of military service. I look forward to being home finally and becoming an active member of our communty and being with my sons as they establish their own lives and families. And, my home renovations are long overdue!
