Carlotta's Story

Life As most of you know, I am a music person by heart, but went to college with the intentions of going to law school afterwards. I attended two colleges. My great love for school is the time that I spent at the University of Texas. My major was government, and my minor was English. My plans changed, and I became a teacher. I am currently not doing that. I have had to stop for now because of back surgery that I had a few months ago. At this point my hobbies include playing my flute, singing, listening to music, reading, scrapbooking, and doing genealogy. When I can, I like to get out and walk. The beauty of the earth is just too much to miss out on. Oh yes, I forgot that I love all sports, but my favorite is University of Texas football. I had a blast watching the 2006 BCS Championship game at the Rose Bowl with UT playing against USC. I screamed loudly after that game was over. Everyone was so thrilled with the win. Hopefully, it will happen again. I miss watching the excitement of Vince Young, but I enjoyed watching the strength and preciseness of Little Colt (MCCoy). Go Longhorns! I have a significant other named Scott. He more than special to me, and I hope some of you come to meet him one day. My best friend in at Stephen F. Austin in Nac was David Wheeler and Casey Sponholz when I was at the University of Texas in Austin .They are honorable people to know. I went to my 20 year reunion for High School and had a GREAT time. I am looking forward to our planned 25 year reunion. It would be nice to hear from some of you that I know. I met a group of old gal pal friends from high school this week, and we had such a good time catching up with each other. Hope to hear from you! :-) School I really had no big crushes in highschool or college. I enjoyed spending time with my friends, both gals and guys. I remember having some of the most profound conversations with different people that still stay with me to this day. The teacher who inspired me the most was my Junior high and High school band director, Mr. Cammack. He was very supportive and always encouraged me to reach for more than I thought I could accomplish. He was always correct about it, and all of that stays with me today. I know that I can do anything that I put my head to. If I could do it all over again, I would go into it knowing what I know today. I think it would be best to not tell my craziest high school story or college story. Let's just say that both included my music friends. Nothing illegal, just crazy. College I remember having a unique suitemate named Cara. Cara was deaf. She did speak and if I remember correctly did sign language. Because of her, I can understand my aunt's speech. My aunt has had a disease that takes away her motor control, including her speech that can be hard to understand. I try to be patient, and can usually figure it out. When it comes to cafeteria cuisine, I just didn't go there. I ate out everyday, but my dad didn't come to find this out until about 5 yrs ago. I am glad he didn't get to upset. I just feel bad, because it was such a waste of money. Okay, one all nighter consisted of trying to...Expand for more
get back to Austin from christian retreat. I had not had any sleep and had a chemistry test to take the next day. Somehow I made an A on that test. The weird thing is that I went to sleep taking the test several times. Go figure. I had many friends in college, both Stephen F. Austin and the University of Texas. As the University of Texas is concerned, it was a better fit for me educationally. My "best friend" at SFA was a nice young man named David. I found that I could talk to David about most anything. Our main conversation had to do with God in our lives. I guess I could say that I learned a lot from those conversations. I haven't been in touch with Dave in a long time, but still remember the very nice friendship that he provided in my life. My "best friend" at UT Austin was a girl named Casey. Casey and I were great study mates, and I think that I did a better job with my classes because of her encouragement in other areas of my life. She doesn't live near me anymore, but we still keep in touch which is great. Another good friend of mine was Sean, he has always been more like a brother to me than anything else. We still talk, and I have gotten to know his family even better because of Hurricane Rita. My family left Houston and started driving North. It took us 38 hours to get to Dallas (should have been 4 hours). We were all exhausted when we got there, so we pulled over and I called for Sean. He called back and was kind enough to make hotel arrangements for my family, and I got to stay with him and his family. We had a great time together. Sean and his wife took great care of my family and me. I will always remember what they did for us. They did it, but they most definitely didn't have too. I have other great friends from college that I still keep in touch with. A lot of it is word of mouth information. One friend knows what is going with another and so and so. I hope to be able to catch up with some more of my old friends at some point.! Workplace I am a teacher by trade. Looking into doing Human Resources work. I specifically would like to do training and organizational developoment for a company. I think that this kind of employment can be transferable to any place that I may move to....could be anywhere in the US. I was very successful with my teaching job, and the last job that I had in education was as a Curriculum Coordinator (specialist). I was happy to be out of the classroom during that time and working specifically with the teachers and the principal who was my only direct person to answer to. I also worked in the Teachers Teaching Teachers program. I believe that is why I am interested in Human Resources areas of work that I like. I have been taking computer graphics courses in the past for years. This could be an employment option too. Then again, I may start my own business that will be easier on my back. I think I mentioned that I had surgery on it in November. It will be interesting to see what comes out of all of this, because I have had so many different kinds of experiences that can take me in many employment directions. We shall see what changes will come to pass.
