Carmen's Story
Have moved back to Austin and am very happy here. July 1, 2012
Obsolete now:
Moved to Fort Worth July 2007, for an adventure and to be near my daughter who does great things for me! My apt. is in a new Senior Complex and is brand new and pretty - like a bungalow all on one level...I will be happy here for sure. My daughter lives only 5 miles away and already we have done some fun things like going to the Taste of Dallas and to all the home and garden type shows her company has booths in. My son still works in Austin but comes to see me often. Darlene Z. Lee and Patty P. Brandt and Jeanne Craig(Yikes, forgot married name but met and like her husband) live in the area and we have enjoyed lunch together several times and once Wanda Brown Moyer joined us when visiting me from Eugene, OR.
I would really love to hear from classmates and those who attended AHS at any grade. I enjoyed the 50th reunion so much and though it is hard to get a chance to have quality time with everyone, I loved seeing everyone all together. Of course beauty is not the way you should judge people but you can't help noticing when someone is outstanding and I can tell you that Darlene Z. Lee and Bill Magers would knock your socks off for looks at our age! Everyone there was fine looking and would make ya proud to be a part of the class of '57. For sweet and thoughtful, Bill's wife Marsha wins the prize. Nelson Greenlund's wife Susan also very warm and welcoming to us strangers.
Been in Fort Worth a year now and learning where some of the good stuff is...best Vietnamese restaurant, Mexican Breakfast, concert hall, shopp...Expand for more
ing, etc. I managed to check two things off my "bucket list" - saw old no-show George Jones in concert and went to the touring Broadway show of the Jersey Boys. Both things affected me hugely. The music of our era was so great and both of these acts represented some of the wonderful old timers.
For my 70th birthday Gina took me to New York City and that may be the best thing (outside of relationships) that ever happened to me. Broadway was more than enchanting. Though only there 4 days I managed to see 4 Broadway shows: Wicked (the story of how the witches from Wizard of Oz became the women they were in the movie); Chicago; My First Time (need you ask?); and Spamalot with Clay Aiken. In addition we rode the tour busses with no tops (the busses, not us!!) and froze in the cold, sometimes drizzly weather. We took the Harbor tour; we ate at Tavern on the Green (gorgeous place) and appreciated Central Park. I saw Richard Lewis (comic performer often on The View) across the street from Central Park on a Sunday morning. He was flying down the street, hair and overcoat back in the breeze like an eagle. Noticing that I recognized him he slowed his pace and said "You look beautiful today Sweetheart." Will I treasure that just about forever??? You bet.
And hey, if you have never been in a bicycle rickshaw in the middle of New York City traffic, speeding taxi cabs all around, at night, in the rain, you haven't known fear!
The above constitutes hard acts to follow. Anyone have any ideas for other things to put on the bucket list? Within reason of course. Odd that I didn't turn out to be rich in my old age!
