Carol's Story
It seems that each decade since Kalani was a reinvention of how I would describe myself.
The 70's was a husband, three babies, a life filled with them, played out in a Haleiwa beach house, a good life. Interesting tidbit from that time was our fostering a 10 yr and 14 yr old, brother's that were VietNamese refugees.
The 80' were spent in NY, Wow talk about culture shock for this little Island girl. Don't know what your 80's were like, but mine were pretty wild, though I did do Meals on
Wheels and continued to raise a family, don't have much to brag on. Lost one husband to the era, but gained my keeper. Gary and I have been married for 18 years, he is quite simply, everything to me.
The 90's, a new life in the mountains of NC, though they similar to Hawaii in beauty and life style, it was culture shock all ove...Expand for more
r again after 10 years in NY.
In NC all my home ec skills went uber and I started exploring home improvements wielding power tools and found that I had a knack for design and its implementation. My property improvements have proved profitable though each project is entered into because I have fun doing what I do. If that ends, so does the work. I volunteered for about 8 years as a Guardian ad Litem, it was a worthy gig.
So now a new century, I'm enjoying entering a phase of feeling like I've got nothing to prove, I think it's called growing old gracefully.
Three grandchildren, our dogs, a father who's mind is leaving him, these are my priorities for now, I'm still designing, but more and more letting others do the actual sweating.
It has been fun seeing names from that long ago and far away time in my life.
