Carol's Story

Hey Harborfields Classmates! What have I been up to since graduating in 1977? (that sounds like a long time ago, but it seems like yesterday to me...). Well, after graduating with a marketing degree from Farmingdale, then Boston University, I lived in NYC for about 20 years climbing the corporate ladder doing sales & marketing for media companies like MTV Networks, CBS, Disney, and then corporate training/leadership firms. I pursued my love of singing, performing as the lead singer in rock, wedding and oldies bands. Fell in and out love a bunch of times in search of my soul mate. Traveled every chance I got, touring Africa, Europe, Turkey, South America, Canada, and the US. Had a ton of fun and made lots of new friends while I stayed in touch with my old pals from HHS. Twelve years ago I fell in love with a handsome and talented musician named Chris Devine (we met onstage). He was living in beautiful Western Massachusetts (near Northampton & Amherst) and I was craving the country, so I quit my high powered New York job, got married, sold my condo, bought a house in the woods, had a baby at 40 (Nina - now 9 and the light of my life), became a stepmom to Martha (now 20 and lovely) and started enjoying this beautiful neck of the woods that's known for its many colleges (Smith, Amherst, Mt. Holyoke, UMass), its progressive politics (hallelujah), its rolling hills and natural beauty, and its artistic and intellectual influences. I love living up here, but I do miss my New York pals (and take-out!) so I go back to the city or the Island whenever I can. Job-wise, I headed up sal...Expand for more
es & marketing for an interactive media company for 5 years, then 3 years ago I became the VP of Marketing for Australis Aquaculture, an innovative aquaculture company that's changing the face of fish farming. I am now firmly ensconced in the world of foodies, chefs, environmental organizations, retailers and national media. My job is to make Barramundi (Australia's favorite fish), "The Next Big Fish" in the US and globally. Even though I live here in 'The Happy Valley', life is still chaotic and stressful. I work and imbibe too much, and relax and chill out too little. But I try to squeeze in fun whenever I can and am happy, and peppy and bursting with glee for the most part. My dad still lives in Greenlawn and we have a summer bungalow in Rocky Point, so I get back to Long Island every month or so. I'm still friends with Harborfields buddies Brian Hurley (tragically battling brain cancer...), and Randy Lazar-Kennedy (living in PA with her two sons and husband). I lost my beloved sister Lisa (class of 1975) to ovarian cancer, and my mom to heart troubles. Alas, life goes on... I hope someone (less busy than me) organizes a reunion. I went to our 10th and 20th, and Lisa's 30th and it was great to reconnect with everyone. Didn't hear anything about our 30th for class of 77. Staying in touch with friends is one of the true joys of my life, so feel free to connect with me. As we all know, life is too short and it's the people you've touched, and who've touched you, that makes the trip worthwhile. Hope you're all doing well. Cheers!
