Carol's Story
Well YesKind, friendly and caring.
Married twice,divorced one and a widow to the second one. I am the widow of John Highlands. I am Carol Highlands, now.
I have three beautiful daughters and two granddaughters.(two son-in-laws).
Love to grow flowers and vegetables.I have a vegetable garden every year and freeze and can all kinds of veggies.I also make jams and jellies. Retirement is very busy for me. When I have time I help my daughter to mow the five acres we own. We have a riding mower and a push mower with front wheel drive. It takes most of one day.I also help to weedwack and till my garden. I love to be outside.
I travel to PA a couple times a year to see my 2 other daughters. sons-in-law, two granddaughters and friends. I go north for Thanksgiving and come back to VA sometime in the new year or so.Made it back Good Friday, this year!!!!
I am a published poet. English class did come in handy. I have a rough draft manuscript of MY LIFE IN POETRY.Part One.
Can't wait for our 50th school reunion in Aug. I hope quite a few classmates come. You never know if we will make our 55th reunion. I plan on it!!!!!!!
I am going to the beach before the oil ruins it. Delaware is far enough away so I can enjoy the Atlantic Ocean before the oil gets that far. I hope it doesn't but it isn't in my hands. I will attend my 50th reunion, in Carlisle,PA. Aug.7th and stay a week with my other two daughters and visit friends.
I attended my 50th school reunion and was glad I did. Classmates changed physcially but not as I expected they would.Bringing back memories was priceless. I hope to do it again in 5 years, hopefully.
Time to start weeding again.Got bite from some insect. Arm was all swolled up.Itched like crazy.Been to doc.'s two times.Arm was infected inside and am on antibiotics for 10 days. Maybe a spider!!!"YUCK"
Arm is back to normal and I dug up white potatoes, today,weedwacked, too.
I have been getting ready for WINTER.Caulking windows, spraying for crawling creatures,sealing cracks and holes, etc. LOOK-OUT groundhog here I come. He chewed through my telephone line to get into the house,say your prayers.Got wood ,stacked and ready to burn.Winterizing our 100 year old house.Plastic still up from last year,over sliding doors and outporch windows.New replacement windows help a lot, all over the house.Finally couldn't take it no more. Got out fuzzy pj's.Frost this morning(Oct.15 th) Started woodstove to take off chill. Frost again today. oct.17, up in these mountains.No sign of groundhog.Must did rest of potatoes this week.Made a pear cake with fresh pears, goooooood.!Getting ready to go to PA for a couple months.I will have excess to a PC so I can keep in touch.
Seems to be a spider population explosion.I've seen more this year than ever before.Dug potatoes yesterday. More to go before ground freezes.Will have to use dynamite to get them out, then. Not really!!!!Next year I will plant 50 lb not 100 lb of seed potatoes.Garden is done for this year.
Well it is going to be 29 degrees tonight.Wind died down for a while.COLD!!!!!!!!
Daughter saw coyote in cow pasture.Cows were making quite a racket.Gone now,but probably not far.
Second spider bite!Upper right quad,front.Hit the target right on. Doctor gave me more antibotics,again.Must have been in my PJ's.Sat. night.Turn clocks back 1 hour before I go to bed tonight.
I made 10 pumpkin breads,strawberry sauce and 8 pumpkin rolls.Heading NORTH with them.Hope to visit family and friends while I'm in PA.
All healed up and almost packed,ready to go. May you all have a great "Thanksgiving,a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year".Will keep in touch while I'm away.Made it to PA safely.So glad to see my other daughters and their famlies.Hope to see my sisters,soon.Cloudy and cold here.Had a great Thanksgiving, the weather was cold and wet,though.
Waiting for the first snow fall of the year.May happen Sun/Mon.Have to face it sooner or later.Love to see it snowing but hate to drive in it.The wind can die down any time, now.No snow,yet.It is Mon.
Daughter called from VA,they had snow and it was 16 degrees.Windy and 5 ft snow drifts.BRRRRRR.

and still waiting for snow inCarlisle,PA!!!!It's Sun and it's raining!!!Wind,wind and more wind.Chilly , down right COLD in PA. It's Thurs. a week later,maybe snow today!!!! Still COLD!!!!!!!Finally snow showers.That was all it did,snow showers.Today is Mon.before Christmas.Still cold and wind is picking up, now.
May get snow after Christmas.We are in the Valley between two mountain ranges in PA.Snow usually goes around us or doesn't make it over the mountains.Snow maybe after Christmas!!!!!!I think it is going to snow this weekend,finally.I don't believe it, the snow past us by without a flurry.Others got plenty, all we got is WIND..I may have to go South for snow.VA got alot of snow where I live. Guess it will warm up and rain this weekend!!!DARN!!!Nice in PA and warming up in Carlisle.
Don't believe it,it didn't rain either.(In PA)Storms seem to pass us by lately.Maybe it will storm after I leave in a couple weeks!!! OH, it may snow before I leave, maybe twice.I knew it!! Well,well we finally had 1 inch of snow.I got 4 new all season radials on my car.Haven't seen everyone I wanted to see because I am not staying as long this trip.More snow in VA right now.PA expects more soon. WHOOPIE!!!!Hope I-81 South will be cleared for travel Mon. 27 th.YES, it snowed 4 + inches in Carlisle, PA finally.Now I can relax.Going to Va in a couple days.Looks like clear sailing to VA on Mon. Hope it stays that way .May not have to much traffic since it is a Holiday.Had a great time in PA, can't wait for family to come down to VA this summer.We always have a great time when we are together.We are FAMILY!!!I meant the 17th not the 27th.Miss typed.Car battery was dead and found out the glove department bulb was on.The door wasn't completely shut.Took out bulb.It was cold here and I didn't drive my car at all last week.The car starts right up now.It has a new battery in it which is only about a year old.This cold weather takes a toll on cars.This Mon seems ok for driving South.I will get back on the pc when I get home.Back in Va after a long uneventful trip. No rain or snow on my way home.My bed is calling me. My cat won't let me alone.She really misses me.I missed her, also.
Getting unpacked and today I saw a beautiful hawk in a tree outside in my yard. Missed the South and home.Windy and cold as usual here.May get snow!!Picture of hawk in picture album, snakes, spiders under gardening.
Well it was 63 degrees today!!!!Storm is on its way though.Mostly rain, I hope.Tired of winter and the cold.Just get us through Feb. and March.
Now we are going to have freezing rain,sleet and colder.Guess that is what winter is all about.Then mud,mud, and mud when it does warm up.At least I can take it getting warmer no matter what comes my way.Yes it is warmer,we are having rain now,snow missed us and hit PA.Got garden plowed and ready to plant in March.YIPPEEE!!! Well it can stop raining anytime now.Soil is saturated .Water in garden, little pools of it.More rain tomorrow.NO<NO<NO more.well it it was a good week.Got my flower garden weeded,help from my daughter.Crocus and daffyis are blooming.Iris heads are popping up.Will weed rest this week.Warming up quite nicely now.!!! Had a great Easter here with the whole family visiting.May is finally here.Gardening time,yeah!!!Tulips are beautiful this year.We are finally done with tornadoes for awhile,I pray.So much devastation one county over.We were spared but had terrible winds and rain.
Started gardening this month.Potatoes,tomatoes,onions,strawberries and cukes planted so far.Waiting till frost is gone for sure to plant more veggies this month.Soon it will be strawberry jelly and jam time,can't wait
Rain go away,I want sunshine for my B-day.Will be 69 and going strong,May 19.Still here.Computer had a virus and I was off for awhile.Garden dried up,little rain this year.Still made jams and jellies.Bought box of tomatoes for salsa and spag sauce.Trip to PA was great ,I'm ready to head home to VA Feb.12th.Had a great visit with my sisters and breakfast with my 2 lifelong friends.Fantastic time with my 2 granddaughter and their families.My daughters Holly and Bea..Some rough times but all in all a good visi. Ready for spring!!!!t.
