Carol's Story
After graduation in '69, I attended college locally for a short time and then studied music (harp and piano) at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. I there married my first husband and we had a wonderful son, Michael, in 1974.
That marriage ended several years later and I returned to college within the SUNY system and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. I worked as an Accountant for 20+ years at different levels.
During that time a good many members of my family decided to escape the snow and taxes of NY and we settled in Las Vegas, NV, where I still live.
I finally obtained an MBA...but a few years after that I became very tired and burnt out from accounting and went back to school, yet again, and became a licensed massage therapist.
I worked in this profession and accounting for a number of years.
I am now married to a wonderful man who was a scientist and clinical researcher at Abbott Pharmaceuticals outside Chicago. My son is 34 and an IT specialist for a large banking system here in Nevada and in Arizona.
My entire family pretty much migrated out here. I unfortunately have lost both parents, as so many of us have. I am semi-retired and I have also developed a mild case of MS. I work in marketing other therapists enhance and enlarge their practice. I am also representing a very well known lecturer and massage therapist from the Ukraine...with sales as well as seminar scheduling, editing and writing books and magazine articles.
We live in North Las Vegas with two dogs, about 100 fish....a long ways away from East Meadow. I miss the "green" of being back east, but I certainly don't miss all the gray days and the snow.
I still play the harp and have two in the house here....and all in all, I would imagine that my life in prior years has been less stabile than some, and a lot more fulfilling and adventuresome than most. I have been fortunate enough to travel all over the...Expand for more
world and at 56, I have a husband who I adore and who adores me and we have a really content and meaningful existence together. His five sons are grown and all over the country and they have four grandchildren. I am a step grandma at the age of 56, which sort of baffles me. I hope one day to have a little grandson or granddaughter of my own, but my son tells me "not to count on it, ma".
To anyone who may read this and remember me, please do email me and let me know how you are...especially I am wondering if there is anyone else living in the Las Vegas area that I might have known or been acquainted with in high school. It would be great hearing from you.
Well, I managed through the years to keep myself in good enough shape that I am pretty much the same weight as when I graudated...my hair is streaked blonde now instead of light brown...but I don't believe I look all that different, just older, of course.
I was never in the social scene in school....I was always busy practicing the harp, and busy studying as I was in the Honor Program. My favorite subjects as I remember remain music....it has stayed with me all my life.
In high school I worked at Holly Patterson as a volunteer candy striper for a long time. I have volunteered at nursing homes and at various Hospices many times throughout the years and I am now at Nathan Adelson Hospice two days a week massaging the patients and administering to them.
My philosophy of my life, in general, is to always behave and do what you need to in a manner that you know you will be proud of at a later date in the future. I hope I can spend the rest of my life that way...a lesson I learned from my mom watching her while growing up. She will always be the person I seek to emulate.
That's about it. My current email is carol at carolaschaefer dot com and it would be nice to here from anyone who remembers me!
Take care,
Carol Anne (Mishelow) Schaefer
