Carol's Story

Carol is from Shakopee, Minnesota. Carol's schools include Shakopee High School. Carol later attended Minnesota (English Education, Speech and theater!!!!!) . Carol works(ed) at District 719, Prior Lake-savage Area Schools, Prior Lake Senior High School. Music Carol likes includes Paul Simon, Jackson Browne, Arlo Guthrie. Books Carol likes include John Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany, Hamlet, Elizabeth George. Movies Carol likes include Life as a House, Dead Poet's Society. TV shows Carol likes include House. One of Carol's favorite quotes is:""The readiness is all" (Hamlet). I also like Mrs. Bennet's line "Those who don't complain can't be pitied" (Pride and Prejudice). Sabina's line in Skin of Our Teeth, "I'm sorry to say this Mrs. Antrobus, but you are not a beautiful woman" comes to mind (actually, a lot). Thoreau's "I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately. . . to suck the marrow out of life." Finally, Walt Whitman's "And the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse" is another line I love.". More about Carol:"The kids call me Otto......I'm a (gasp) retired teacher (senior high school English) a wife, a parent, a grandparent (two amazing grandsons -- Zach and Jameson (Babyson) Zehnder). I also am a "former" (retired) speech coach and theater director. I still am enthusiastic about a lot of things. I love teaching (and already miss it more than I should) -- love literature -- love directing, and love my family. I have two adult children. My daughter Heather is married (and the mother of my grandsons Zach and Jameson) to Col...Expand for more
lan and has been teaching in the same school district I was in for the past ten years. My son Andy is married to Branden Huldeen. He has been living in New York for the past six years. He is working hard at making theater not only his passion, but his livelihood as well. I think the fact that he was born between performances of a show I was directing has had something to do with it. My husband Keith (the "real" Otto) is a bicyclist, a runner (not as much as he was), an historian, a speaker and reader of Swedish, and a lover of "interesting" music. He is an amazing grandfather, which has been really fun to see. We are both bicycle race fans and World Soccer cup fans -- and we are both very interested in wines (he may someday become the wine sommelier that he talked about a few years ago). We just celebrated our 38th (!!!!) wedding anniversary in June. I retired in June of 2010. My first year of retirement was spent in knee replacement, rehab, being a grandmother, and what I tended to call being "selfish and lazy." I've stepped things up a bit now and have hopefully found a "balance of busy" (yes, I like alliteration). I substitute teach two or three days a week (or at least that's my goal) and run an after school credit recovery program from 3:15-5:15 Tuesday-Thursdays. That gives me my "school fix" :-). I've also become involved in volunteer work with an organization called Rainbow Rumpus. I'm the administrative assistant and volunteer coordinator, as well as a copy editor/proofreader. I'm really enjoying my volunteer time, and I love the organization.".
