Carol Phillips:  

After high school in June 1971, I went to work at the HISD administration building as a Records Clerk. I worked there until I got married in January of 1972 to Walter Jonte'. He was in the Navy and stationed in Jacksonville, Florida so that is where we lived for two years. While I was there, I worked as a temporary employee with Prudential Insurance Co. for about a year until I found regular employment with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida. We moved back to Houston in December of 1973. I went to work for Exxon Co., USA and started a family. I had Allison in January 1975 and Wesley in July 1977. I quit working in 1979 and went back to school. I ended up needing to find another job and went to school at night while working at Amoco Production Co. In 1982, Walter took a transfer with his job at Houston Lighting & Power Co. to the new plant in Jewett, Texas. We moved to Mexia, Texas just north of Jewett. I stayed home the first two years and finally had to go back to work as a records clerk at a group home for the mentally challenged.
