Carol's Story

Life I GRADUATED IN 1969 WITH MANY OF MY FRIENDS WITH WHOM I HAD BEEN IN SCHOOL FOR YEARS, HAVING BEEN BORN AND RAISED IN GAINESVILLE. I HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR ONLY 22 YEARS HAVING MARRIED IN MY 30'S. MY FIRST SON, DAVID IS NOW 20 AND A COLLEGE SENIOR AT UT IN AUSTIN, TX. AT THIS POINT HIS MAJOR IS FILM MAKING. MY SECOND SON DANIEL, 18, GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL HARLINGEN, TX. HE WAS AWARDED NATIONAL HISPANIC SCHOLAR RECOGNITION AND HAS ACCEPTED A SCHOLARSHIP AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA AT TUSCALOOSA. WE TOOK DANIEL TO ALABAMA IN AUGUST, JUST PRIOR TO HIS BIRTHDAY. HE HAS EMBRACED COLLEGE LIFE AND IS REALLY ENJOYING HIMSELF. HE WAS NEVER A FOOTBALL FAN IN HIGH SCHOOL, BUT HAS CHANGED SINCE BEING AT "BAMA. HARD TO BELIEVE I BROUGHT HIM UP WITH GATOR STUFF. HE IS PLANNING ON MAJORING IN ENGINEERING. DANIEL WILL GRADUATE IN MAY 2009, WE HOPE. ROLL TIDE. MY HUSBAND, ARNIE GARCIA IS AN INSTRUCTOR AT OUR TECHNICAL COLLEGE IN HARLINGEN TX. I MOVED HERE 30 YEARS AGO IN ORDER TO TAKE A JOB AS AN EEG TECHNOLOGIST AT A FINE HOSPITAL IN HARLINGEN. I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE TO REMAIN IN TOUCH WITH SOME OF MY HIGH SCHOOL FRIENDS BUT NOT AS MANY AS I WOULD HAVE LIKED. MY FAMILY HAS BEEN VERY IMPORTANT TO ME AND MY MOTHER PASSED AWAY IN MAY 2008. DAD PASSED AWAY JULY 12, 2006 AFTER SUFFERING COMPLICATIONS FROM HIS PARKINSONS DISEASE. OF F. MY MOTHER DEVELOPED A DEMENTIA A FEW YEARS AGO. SHE WAS ABLE TO LIVE AT HOME WITH THE HELP OF SOME WONDERFUL CARE GIVERS. MY SISTER JANE MARQUEZ ALSO LIVES IN GAI...Expand for more
NESVILLE AND SISTER CINDY RUSSELL LIVES IN DAYTONA BEACH. I USUALLY AM ABLE TO RETURN TO GAINESVILLE AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR. I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM ANY OF YOU WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEND A MESSAGE. I AM ESPECIALLY GLAD TO HAVE FINALLY FOUND KATHY STELZENMULLER AND CAMILLE MARINETTI. I HAD BEEN VERY ACTIVE IN BOY SCOUTS WITH BOTH SON'S HAVING COMPLETED THEIR REQUIREMENTS FOR EAGLE SCOUT. ON JANUARY 10, 2004 WE HAD A COURT OF HONOR FOR OUR TWO BOY'S AND SIX OTHER YOUNG MEN IN OUR BOY SCOUT TROOP. I AM ALSO ACTIVE IN MY CHURCH, CHURCH CHOIR AND A LOCAL CIVIC CHORALE. I ADDED THE U OF F AG SITE SO THAT ANY OF MY DAD (DR. WILLIAM BLUE) STUDENTS MIGHT GET IN TOUCH. College I attended Wesleyan College my freshman year where I was a less than exemplary student. My parents made the best decision ever and did not send me back to Wesleyan, I was really not mature enough. I, instead, attended my local junior college, Santa Fe Community College, where I did well and, in fact, graduated with extra hours from taking classes of professors that I liked. I then started the University of Florida which I did not finish. My next step was to get accepted into a technology program for Electroneurodiagnostics Technologist, EEG to a lay person. I have made this my carreer and have been working at my current job for the past 30 years. Workplace I HAVE WORKED IN HARLINGEN, TX, AT VALLEY BAPTIST MEDICAL CENTER SINCE 9/5/78. PRIOR TO THAT I WORKED BRIEFLY IN TITUSVILLE, FL AND FOR 2 YEARS PRIOR TO THAT IN WINTER PARK, FL.
