Carol's Story

Life Carol Moll -- I moved from McHenry to Arlington Hts in 1971 when I was 20. I shared the apt with a friend from work for three years. In 1974, I moved to a different location in Arlington Heights and shared the apt with Pat Murphy until May 1983. In 1983, I bought a townhome in Schaumburg where I lived until I got married in Sept. 1998. Ron and I lived in Addison until we retired and moved to Arizona in October 2006. I was never blessed with children, but I have many nieces and nephews. I also inherited 5 stepchildren and 7 step-grandchildren when I got married. I worked at Allstate for 36 years and retired in 2006. My mom passed away June 8, 1982 from heart related problems. My dad remarried and now lives in Arkansas. My sister, Mary, passed away February 19, 2002 from heart related problems. My brothers, Alan and Dale, still live in Illinois. All my nieces and nephews live in Illinois with the exception of one niece who lives in Washington. Ron has a son and two grandchildren in Illinois. The others all live in Virginia. We try to get to see everyone as often as we can. It was Ron's dream to live in Arizona and get away from the cold. I love it here too but I miss my family so much. Everyone says it gets easier the second year. Workplace RETIRED and loving it. I worked for Steuben Realty my junior and senior years of high school and a little bit after graduation. I went to work for a secretarial service after that and then was referred to Allstate. I started with Allstate on June 8, 1970 as Secretary to Sr. Director in the Legal Department. In 1972 I transferred to a new department called Service Review. We relocated from the Home Office in Northbrook to a location in Arlington Heights which was only 10 minutes from my apt at the time. omoted back to the Home Office working for Director of Systems Development. In 1975 I was promoted to work for an AVP of Group Life & Health. In 1977 I was promoted to Executive Secretary non-exempt working for the Executive VP of Group Life & Health. In 1979 I was transferred to work for the General Manager of Allstate Reinsurance and worked there until 1987. We worked in the South Barrington office during those years. In 1987 I went back to Northbrook and worked for the Vice President of Personal Lines Human Resources. In 1989 I was promoted to Executive Secretary Exempt working for the Territorial Vice President handling the Central Territory of Allstate's regional offices. In 1993 I transferred to work for the Chief Financial Officer of Allstate Personal Lines insurance. The people I worked for during my secretarial career reported directly to the Chairman and CEO of Allstate at that time. Because of that, I am able to say I knew the last 7 CEO's personally. The last person I worked for helped me change careers before he retired in 1997, and I was promoted to Procurement Analyst. My first assignment was to work in our travel area. I then worked in our Corporate Credit Card area and in 2000 was assigned to hosting a HelpDesk for our E-Commerce B2B Requisitioners across the country. I was also responsible for setting up new requisitioners and writing job guides for them. In February 2006, Allstate offered a voluntary retirement/termination package to eligible employees in the Home Office in Northbrook. I was going to retire November 2006, so this was just icing on the cake. So after 36 years, I walked out of Allstate for the last time on May 31, 2006. I stay in touch with my best friends there but overall it was good to leave as the company was changing so much.
