Carol's Story

The following story is written for all the 1960 classmates who were my treasured friends and commrades, but especially for Miss Fitch, Mr. Shatto and Mr. Hartman who have recently bugged me to tell my story. After graduation from NPHS, I attended classes at Phoenix College and worked various jobs. My very first job was down in the basement kitched of Good Samaritan Hospital, serving food on the service line and washing dishes in the clipper. Little did I know my first son would be born in that same hospital in 1971. I also worked in two physician's office that lasted until 1969. In 1964, a girlfriend and I spent a month in Hawaii (I recommend this for anyone before they get married). I married an active duty Air Force man when I was 24 years old, at Luke AFB in 1966. Shortly after, he left for Vietnam on a remote assignment for one year. When he returned, we had many stateside assignments, including two assignments in Germany totalling nine years. During this time, we had three sons, born in 1971, 1973 and 1976. Before my husband retired in 1990, the Air Force finally gave us our first choice of assignments, Eglin AFB in Fort Walton Beach FL (located in the Florida panhandle surrounded by beautiful green water called the Emerald Coast). We were very excited to have a chance to live in a tropical paradise. In 1980, I ...Expand for more
started my career in Federal civilian service, specifically in the Civilian Human Resources field, where I stayed until I retired at Eglin AFB on 3 Jan 80. In Jul 2004, I divorced my husband, due to irreconcile differences, after 38 years of marriage. My beloved Mother and Father both passed away in Phoenix; my Mom in 1979 due to breast cancer, and my Father in 1984 from heart failure. All my children, their spouses and my five grandchildren live in the surrounding area from where I live. We love the area we live in and would never consider leaving, but I have always considered the Arizona desert my home. I was only in Phoenix twice a very short time to bury my parents. I know Phoenix has grown immensely and is not the same as when I saw it last in 1985. I still have many friends there; childhood friends, high school and college friends. I was surprised to hear that our beloved Mustang Corral burned down. I danced many a dance and was thrilled with a few young men there...good memories! Well, now you know all about me. If any of you travel to the local vicinity, I would welcome your visit. All I have to say my good friends Miss Fitch, Mr. Shatto and Mr. Hartman, is that you better get cracking on your stories because I will checking and reminding you about them on this site! Your friend always, Carol A. Beaver (White)
