Caroline's Story

Life What happened to our class of '72? Can no one pick up the ball for a reunion? Shame on us. I envy my husband's Marina HS class. They are still connected and going strong. April 28,2019 I now have 6 grandchildren 3 of each. We've been married 42 years and still prefer eachothers company. I retired from 30+ years of nursing 20 of this in the federal government Dec. 2017. I haven't looked back once. I still love WA. We bought an airstream and will trek into New Mexico, soon. But first I need to settled my 95 y.o. mom who still lives alone and is alert albeit a bit slower. April 9, 2010 oops, it's been a year, I have a wonderful little Grandson named Charlie and I'm expecting my second grandchild May! I love Japan. I went last month with my mom who is 86. April 9, 2009 I'm a grandma!!!???? wow, I don't feel like a grandma. WAIT! I can't be a grandma, I'm still 19 right? April 3, 2009 Awaiting the birth of our first grandchild to Leah & Brandon. tic,tic,tic,tic... January 2009 Miriam & Rob move near us! Woo hoo! November 2008 Miriam weds Robert. August 2008 James wed Lauren in a beautiful outdoor wedding on the East Coast at a vineyard. May 2008 Spring is here! My son James will wed Lauren in Rhode Island. It's my first time to be mother of the groom. I will NOT "wear beige & keep my mouth closed" I'll wear yellow and laugh a lot. My youngest daughter will wed November in Seattle. This will be an exciting year! Christmas 2007 Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! Snow sits lightly on the grasses like a dusting of powdered sugar on Christmas cookies, a nearby brown house magically turns into a gingerbread house by night b/c of Christmas lights, my children are coming home for the holidays. Music fills the air and I have only to pick up the evergreen branches out my back door because the wind has blown them off the trees. * For those of you who missed the reunion, it was great! The location was relaxing, the food tasty, and I was surprised to see so many of us were still in s...Expand for more
hape and able to keep up great dance moves :) I made friends with some classmates I'd not known in HS. June 2007: Return to the states, literally live among the eagles in tall trees next to ferries in the land of coffee, dream of another life a second career, take on the master's program I've been thinking about for 15 years. What do I want to be this time I grow up? 2006 Accompanied my mom on an Alaskan cruise. Enjoyed visiting our kids in SF, Seattle, and Honolulu. Drink absolutely great coffee. Make superb jam from my mom's raspberries. Go to tea with my two gracious daughters. Enjoy the success of my handsome son. Relax with my best friend, my husband. My empty nest is filled with activities and my Shiba puppy Kuri. I'm touched my dear friends and acquaintences who remember me still. 1998-2005 Take federal nurse position with DODEA. Love working with middle and high school students of military and state dept. families in overseas settings. Live as expat, learn to get by in foreign language. Getting ready to take the reigns as my husband readies for his retirement. Travel. Celebrate my daughter's wedding. 1987-1997 Venturing into a support role for my husband's new career, I live between "the states" and Japan. My career takes a back seat as we travel abroad. My life's work becomes the shaping of three lively and brilliant minds. 1978-1985 Met and married my husband Yas Yoneda while still active duty. Gave up the Navy for motherhood x 3 and a domestic role. Retained commission in Navy Reserve. 1972-1976 I was discontent being at CSUH. I really wanted to be at CAL but let my own fears get the best of me. Thankfully I ended up at UCSF Medical Center where I entered a grueling nursing program. It was the most wonderful, toughest two years. Met some great people, learned how to really think. Graduated, took a commission with Navy Nurse Corps as I promised my dad I would. GO BEARS!! 1968-1972 Except for my dear friends; Nina, Nancy, and Robyn I didn't much care for high school.
