Caroline's Story
Hi all, glad you are curious. My most recent story starts later after working at the Brevard County Clerks Office for 13 years. I left Florida in October 2000 to go to London to obtain my Master's Degree in International Relations; after 2 years in London, I moved to Stuttgart, Germany, where my mom lived and was working as the Assistant Principal at the DoDs (Department of Defense) school at the military base. My mom, Pat Cosby, many of you remember, was a teacher at Astronaut High School (she's now back in Florida after retiring from DoDs).
I have remained in Stuttgart, Germany, working for EUCOM (European Command Headquarters), a US military base also in charge of many European (+ other) countries. Soon, I hope to be working for our new Command Headquarters of AFRICOM, which is also based in Stuttgart. AFRICOM is in charge of the African nations and was established to support the countries in various ways. (See eucom.mil for more on both of these).
I am not military status, but a civilian. To work and be able to live in Europe is won...Expand for more
derful, and I enjoy the different seasons (most of the time). I am in a constant state of learning the German language and know enough to get by (or get me in trouble). After 7 1/2 years, The cold and snow is still something I am getting used to, and when summertime comes around, there is no air conditioning. This can be extremely hot, getting over a 100 degrees at times. Growing up in Florida doesn't give you exposure to the winter life, and of course, Florida has an extreme amount of air conditioning, something I don't miss (except when it's sweltering here).
If you are heading to Germany (or Europe), send me a message, as I am located within a couple of hours from France, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg (the closest countries) in case you would like some insight into how to get your travel started, and if in the region, maybe meeting somewhere! Currently, the Euro is soaring above the dollar (at almost 1 Euro to $1.60), so I have to plan travel inexpensively.
