Caroll's Story
I live in Sugar Land, Texas. We are just southwest of Downtown Houston. I am still married to Rich Dixon and we have two gorgeous daughters, Jessica 21 and Jennifer 18. I make jewelry and glass beads. I have a website: horsefeathersjewelsandglass I have 2 horses and take care of 2 more for a friend who works out of state. I love to garden. I have lots of gardens all around my house. We live in a 2 story home, 4/2.5/2 built in 1990 by Brighton Builders in a subdivision called "Village of Oak Lake".
We have our own business called "Crane Parts Inc" established in 1996 and we sell parts for overhead bridge cranes, like motors, brakes, blocks, hoists, electrical contacts etc. Rich is the backbone of our business and can rebuild hoists, motors, blocks and he gets calls from all over the US from service guys for advise on parts and repair. He has engineered our aftermarket parts production and wheels and deals for parts and equipment. I joined the company in 2005. I worked for 25 years in the millwork industry. millwork direct to builders. But, alas, life is not perfect and the millwork business is a fast-paced industry and very, very stressful and left the business and went to work for Rich and his partner.
We are all aging baby boomers stuck in the middle class. As we are self-employed, health care is foremost in our minds these days. I take anti-depressants, blood pressure meds and medication for restless leg syndrome. Rich takes anti-depressants and cholesterol meds. We have no health insurance and the company foots the bill for doctor visits and medication. We live paycheck to paycheck but fortunately we don't have huge credit card bills anymore (learned that lesson the hard way years ago) and have built up a lot of equity in our home. It is my dream to buy about 10 acres and move our horses and ourselves out of the subdivision where your next door neighbor lives just 10 feet from your house.
