Life
Hi All 1967 Manteca High School Grads. My name is Carolyn Austin (Beall). I have never had the opportunity to attend any of our class reunions because I have never received notificationof dates, times or places. I hope that will change, with this posting. Here is a little update on what I have been up too, the past 35 years. I married my high school sweetheart, Roy Austin, December 6th,1969. Roy graduated from Manteca High in 1966. Roy was in the military as a Green Beret for 34 years and we travelled around the world. Our family lived in Italy for several years. Together we have two daughters and 6 grandchildren. Roy retired from the military and went to work for Homeland Defense. I am an R.N. and Director of a Medical/Surgical department, in Victorville California. I graudated from the University of New York, during one of many assignments on the east coast. It was during one of our many trips back east that Roy and I happened to be in Washington D.C. on September 11, 2001. He was attending some meetings at the Pentagon and I was waiting to meet him for lunch at the Pentagon, onthe fateful morning. couple of hours of the tragedy, my hotel lobby, the Residence Inn, across the street from the Pentagon, was turned into a Triage area for the walking wounded, evacuated from the Pentagon grounds. For (6) hours I traiged injured victims and cared for them until transportation to local hospitals could be made. It was an amzaing and humbling expereince. I was honored by county/state/local organizations for what they called "heroism" but what I thought then and still believe today, was simply what any nurse would have done, in the same situation.
The joy of our lives is our children and grandchildren; (5) boys and ONE girl. Of course she is the Apple of both our eyes and we remind her often that "rank has it's privileges". Well, that is about it. Sure doesn't seem possible that it has been 35 years since we were all chewing bubble gum and giggling at each other. Hope life has been as wonderful for each of you as I feel it has been for me. I truly hope that I will hear from some of you when time permits.
