Carolyn's Story

Hi to all my classmates! When I signed up with Classmates I had every intention of writing my profile but never took the time. Well, it has been about four years since then;four years that has past by way too quickly and I figured that I had better sit down and as the Nike slogan says--"Just Do It." So here it goes . . . Of course, I graduated with the Class of 19™78 and can'™t believe that was 34 years ago (Whew!). I will give a synopsis of what's happened and what's gone on in my life over the last three-plus decades, as well as my life now. . . Six weeks after graduation I left home to start my four year enlistment with the U.S. Air Force. I did my basic military training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. After basic training and technical school, I was sent back to Lackland to start my military career as a medic. I met another airman shortly thereafter whom I married in Spring 1980. I was stationed in Texas for 2½ years and then my husband and I were transferred to Cannon AFB in Clovis, New Mexico (yep--”there is another Clovis!). In early 1982, I gave birth to my only child, a daughter, and I find it surreal that I now have a 30-year old kid (no grandchildren). After my military service ended in July 1982, I became a stay at home mom and when my husband's enlistment ended a few months after mine, we moved to Alamogordo, NM where he took a job with a civilian contractor to the military. My husband and I separated not long after that and I moved back to Chowchilla with my daughter in 1984 (we divorced after 8 years of marriage and I have not remarried). When I came back to Chowchilla I lived with my parents for about 18 months while I commuted back and forth to Fresno for work. I have been living and working in Fresno since 1985. In 1990, I did something I always wanted but was too burned out to do after 13 years of primary education, and that was to go to college and pursue a Bachelor'™s degree. I did all my general education courses at Fresno City College and then transferred to Fresno State, where in 1995 I received my BA in Mass Communication and Journalism. For the past 15 years I'™ve been working for a local government as a management analyst. . . These days I live a quiet, peaceful, uncomplicated, but busy life. In addition to working full time, I a™m in the mist of launching at home-base...Expand for more
d side business as an event planner. Not the kind that plans parties, fundraisers, galas, walk-a-thons, weddings or other special events. My focus will be on planning and coordinating meetings, business seminars, training workshops, conferences, videoconferences, teleseminars, etc. for corporations, business and medical associations and the government. It has been a lot of hard work trying to get this business up and running while still working my day job. . . In my spare time I like to read, write, go to jazz concerts, plays, shows, art galleries, the movies, ”anything that has to do with the creative arts I enjoy, and I absolutely love to travel. And although I feel I have not done nearly enough traveling, I plan to do much more in the future. I seem to be on a cruising kick of late, having gone on six cruise-- five of them within the last 12 years. And, I™'m currently in the early stages of planning my seventh cruise; however, I have not decided where I want to go. . . What kind of person was I in high school? Well, I certainly was not one of the big personalities that everyone knew nor would anyone say I was popular. I perceive myself to have been somewhat quiet but friendly, reserved, unassuming and athletic. I played volleyball and ran track all four years of high school. I enjoyed the volleyball but I really loved running track and looked forward to track season every year. . . There are some things I regret not having done in high school. The one big thing I regret is that I was not more involved with the whole high school experience. I never went to a high school dance ”it just never interested me to do so and I went to very few football and basketball games. Again, I just wasn't all that interested in participating in high school activities other than sports. I did, however, go to prom my senior year. I also regret not venturing too far out of my clique to mingle with the variety of classmates to get to know more of you better. Of course, if I could go back to those days I would surely do things differently. All that being said, for the most part I look back on those four years with great fondness. Well-- this is pretty much it for now, folks. Now that I have taken this first step, I am going to make an effort to stay connected though this site. Take care all! (updated 6/2/12)
