Carolyn's Story
After graduation I attended Mesa Junior College for a while. My first job was in 1969; I worked for the County of San Diego, "Juvenile Probation Department". I married Samuel Pozdol 6 Feb 1971. I met him at Miramar Naval Air Station before I graduated from high school. We lived in Clairemont, North Park, and El Cajon. After two years I got a promotion and worked downtown for the "County Tax Collector". In 1972 I had a little girl, Melanie Annette Pozdol. In 1973 we bought a house in Mira Mesa. In 1974 I left government employment and worked for Vons Grocery Company (the pay was better). I had a daughter in 1975, Natalie Renee Pozdol, and in 1977 had another girl, Angela Jenelle Pozdol. In 1980 we packed up everything and moved to Kentucky. What a jolt. It took me a while but I adjusted to the culture. We lived there for 7 years. I worked for the State, Child Support Division. While in Kentucky I did something I'd always wanted to do - I joined the military (Army). At the age of 31 I went to Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. It was very hard and I questioned my wisdom in doing such a thing. As it turned out it was the best thing I could have ever done. I went in as an E3 (Private First Class) because I already had a skill (ty...Expand for more
ping and office experience). I was in the Reserves for two years then went active duty reserve (AGR). I had assignments in Lexington, KY, St. Louis, MO, Los Alamitos and Garden Grove, CA, Fort McCoy, WI, and Arlington Heights, IL. In 1990 I separated and divorced and in 1992 married a soldier, Edward Brothers, a Lieutenant Colonel (05). He had a 9-year-old son that he had custody of. While in the military I earned a BA Degree in Human Resource Management from Judson College in Elgin, IL. In 2005 I retired from the Army as an E8 (Master Sergeant). I was 55 at the time. If I would have started out earlier in life in the military I would have hung around for Sergeant Major. I know I would have made that rank. We retired to Highland, IL (where my oldest daughter lives). I have two granddaughters from my oldest daughter and another granddaughter from my stepson. My middle daughter is getting married this year and lives in Florida. My youngest daughter works for the State Department at the U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia, South America. I love to scrapbook, follow politics, am active in church, and I am addicted to conservative talk radio and Fox News. I work parttime for the City of Highland at Korte Recreation Center, Front Desk. I love my life.
