Carolyn's Story
After graduation, I went to work for Southern Bell as a cost accountant. After I had been there for over 2 years, a girlfriend talked me into joining the military. I chose the Air Force. I had always wanted to be a lab technician and I thought this might be my chance for free training, I had also always wanted to see California. I worked hard and was rewarded with exactly what I wanted. I became a lab tech. at Travis Air Force Base near Sacramento and San Francisco Calif. I married a fellow lab tech. We had a son and 13 months later we had a daughter. He continued with his military career and I became a stay at home mom. We got orders to Germany and spent over 3 years there. California. My husband decided to leave the military and accept a job at a local hospital. We had been married for 13 years, when my husband decided he wanted a divorce. I eventually returned to the south and went to work at Ivey's department store in the accounts payable dept. I had met someone in California after my husband and I split up. He was in the military too, so we had a long distance romance for 5 years before we got married. We were stationed in Hickory, NC and Virginia Beach, VA before he retired from the military. He now works as a computer programmer/business analysis for Wells Fargo Mortgage Company. We've been married for over 30 years now and have 3 grandsons.
