Carolyn's Story
I married in 1974, John Conner, a Captain in the USAF, a B-52 Pilot. We were married 7 years, never having any children. I managed a womens apparel store in Shreveport and then in Jackson, MS. for 4 years. I then returned to Shreveport, and worked for SCB Yellow Page Advertising as an Outside Sales Rep in N. LA. for 11 years. I won the companies top sales awards in more than one year of my tenure. I remarried an accountant and moved to Dallas where I sold new homes for a luxury home builder. I love interior design and have always had a design business on-the-side, no matter what job I have held. I also design and manufacture jewelry, had my designs in a showroom at the Dallas World Trade Center, employed 13 contract craftsman and was in over 50 stores nationwide . In 1994 I survived a serious auto accident...a coma of 5 days, spinal meninjitis and blood clots that went to my lungs and emergency surgury to remove them. GOD was very gracious in my living, and recovery!! My husband abandoned me soon after the accident. ...Expand for more
The most curious part of my brain injury was that I have around ten years missing from my memory, which included both he, and the marriage...not to mention, anyone else, or any event during those ten years. When he left the marriage, he did so as a stranger. Just six months post-injury, I passed both a Texas Group I and a Property and Casualty Insurance License test and worked as an agent for Horace Mann and then for Farmers Insurance. I have also attended two years of college courses post-injury and maintain a 4.0. on the Dean's List,...special kudos for a brain injury survivor! The whole story is somewhat like you see in the movies of someone who lost their memory...except very real!!! I speak at women;s conference's about the accident and GOD'S intervention. I keep everyone laughing, thinking and appreciating each moment of their life a bit more than when I began my story.
I have recently moved to Chattanooga, TN and am looking for a house (on top of a mountain, I hope). A new chapter awaits! I will write more, soon.
