Carolyn's Story
Life
Attended Enterprise, then Compton. Married Jim lee'55 had 2 children divorced in '62, married guy from Whittier in '65 had 2 more children . Have 5 grand-kids. Have been widowed for 6 1/2 yrs. Retired.
College
I attended Cypress J.C. and received an AA in Accounting. I had already worked as an Accts. Receievable Clerk for Thorpe Insulation in City of Commerce, and as a Payroll and Accts. Payable for Harter's Dist. in No. Hollywood. Just decided to go back to school for a couple of years to get the Paper that showed what I already knew. But afterwards became a waitress to work shorter hours and make as much money. I have never regretted my choice. I loved the connection with people more than ...Expand for more

Workplace
I worked in accouting for Thorpe Insullation co. for 2yrs. Then in accounting for Harters Dist. for 8yrs. Then changed profession and became a waitress at The Crab Cooker Rest. in Newport bch. And the short hours and excellent tips keep me there for 33 yrs. I retired from the Crab Cooker in May of2002. I loved the interaction with the customers and in the summer months we had 2hr. waits for seating everynight so The Money I earned was outstanding when you realize a server is only paid min. wage and has no benefits.If you get into the right place you can bring the big bucks every night by working a 5 hr. Shift. I loved and I miss it. But my feet don't hurt anymore.
