Carolyn's Story
I won District 33 International Speech Contest - for the second year in a row! I believe I am the first woman in District 33 history to do so. I will be competing again this year in the Semi-finals of the World Championship of Public Speaking. This year it will be in Cincinnati, OH. Wow - can't believe I am going to the Semi-finals -- again. I am working hard to progress farther this year. I really would love to be able to be 1 of 10 speakers competing in the World Championship of Public Speaking. Wish me luck!
Competing in Orlando, FL was one the best experiences I have ever had in the whole of my life. Being one of only 88 people from around the world to step out onto the semi-finals stage - what a rush. Even though I did not get to progress further, it was an amazing, growing and wonderfully terrifying but learning pleasure. I also discovered that one of the other competitors was from Helena too. Grant competed last year as well in the semi-finals. Do you know how rare it is that two people from Helena, MT competed at the same semi-finals? It must be a record of some kind! Now, I need to work on next year's speech. I want to get to the World Stage even more than ever now!

tional Speech contest. I will be representing the Division at the District 33 conference in Bakersfield, CA on May 5. STRIKE THAT - it's been a GREAT year in Toastmasters. I won 1st place at the District 33 Conference in Bakersfield. I move on to the semifinals at the World Championship of Public Speaking in Orlando, FL. I truly believe my speech could take me to the World stage. I was also honored to receive Toastmaster of the Year for Division D. I also received club honors of Toastmaster of the Year for The Lunatics and T.G.I. Toastmasters. I received Sparkplug of the Year for Jackpot Speakers. At the Area level, I was awarded Toastmaster of the Year for both Division D-1 and D-2.
My group therapy is still the time I spend with my improv group, The Las Vegas Improvisation Players (LVIP). We have workshops every week and perform once a month. I love it! It is so much fun. I used to belong to a Television & Film group. Maybe you saw me in Rocky VI? LOL I was "an extra" - good luck finding me anywhere in that movie! But, I got to see Stallone up close & personal. Wow, I guess movie stars age too - just like us 'real' people - because I'm so old now! LOL Just trying to survive like everyone else in this economy and town. Guess I like the glitter!
