Carolyn Phelps:  

I was raised in Rose Park and went to West for my sophomore year, before my family moved across town. I've always considered West my alma mater since those are the people I grew up and went to school with for most of my life. After graduating from high school, I attended the U of U, then moved to Lake Tahoe; got married, moved to Alaska where i lived in a tent for 7 months, then back to Utah where I had 2 children, Molli and Peter, with my husband, John, a state park ranger. We lived in Park City, Wanship, at Goblin Valley State Park and in Blanding. I separated from John wnen the kids were 1 and 3, went back to school at Utah State and received my degree in Environmental Studies, married a professor and we moved to western Wisconsin,. I attended grad school at the University of MN, securing my MS in Outdoor Recreation Management; completing my thesis on social conditions in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in N. MN. We then moved to Stillwater MN, where I've worked for county parks for 18 years; the last 11 have been running the Washington County HIstoric Courthouse, high on the bluff overlooking the Wild and Scenic St. Croix River.
