Carolyn Poole-Johnson:  

Carolyn is married. Her schools include Wilson High School. And at the age of 45 changed careers and attended Gupton Jones Mortuary College in Atlanta Georgia at the age of 45 and graduated with a degree in Mortuary Science.. I had a hard time finding a job in because WOMEN in the early 90's weren't looked at as capable of handling the stress of the job or the heavy lifting but the owners of Smith and Williams Funeral Home had faith in me and in 1991 hired me as their first woman resident trainee. I became fully licensed by the State og Virginia in 1994 and works(ed) at Smith and Williams Funeral Home and also Kellum Funeral Hime as an embalmer and director for 22 years. The funny thing is all of the men that told me I would never be a funeral director voted me in as President of The Tidewater Directors Association and I also assisted in the development of the Mortuary Science Program that is now offered at Tidewater Community College.
