Carolyn (Lens)'s Story

Hi All, I am the former Carolyn Lens & am happily married & still living in MA. I lived on Benel Rd. in Belnel Village with my family. I had 4 siblings but my oldest brother whose name is Bob, passed away at the age of 72 this past October & my other brother whose name is Paul passed away on April 2nd of this year, 2012. He was only 13 months older than I & he was a 1960 graduate of HPHS Paul took the shop course & about 4 years after he graduated, Paul joined the Air Force & served for a little over 4 years..Our entire family is devasted over the 2 recent deathsThe reason that I mentioned my brothers' deaths was in case any of you knew one or both of them. Bob graduated from English High School. I have a younger sister Susan & she is happily married & she is 51/2 years younger than I am. My father owned & operated the Whiterette Laundromat on River St. That was across the street from Metropolitan Ave. Some of the teachers at our high school were customers of my dad's. My mother worked there part time to help my dad out but didn't start there until I was 17 & that's the age I was when I graduated in 1961.I think that some of you might remember seeing my father's laundromat & that's the reason that I mentioned it. Diane (Gradzewicz) from the class of 1962 remains my best friend. I was a cheerleader in my senior year & on the Pep Club in my junior year. I attended Girls Latin for my first 2 years of high school but because it was like a college prep school & I was used to being on the honor roll in elementary & junior high schools, I was worried that I might fail the subject Latin & I detested that subject so I decided to switch to good old HPHS & was so happy that I did. I was in the college course & I enjoyed going to school. During lunch periods I mostly sat with Ginny Gaegan & Jean Fennessey. I remain in contact with Jean. Do any of you remember them? Jean & I fixed my brother Bob & her sister Jackie up & they got married. So sad that they've both passed away. They were so much in love. My brother Paul had (until his recent passing) all the friends he grew up with in Belnel Village. There are several of them but the only one that went to HPHS is Ray Fisher. They all are such a loyal group to each other. I wonder the reason(s) that we didn't have a 50th Class Reunion. That would have been a huge celebration.Do any of you know the reason(s) that we didn't have one? After High School, I became a Medical Chemistry Technician & worked at Tufts' Medical Center & enjoyed that very much. I took Chemistry at MIT, I also worked at Sturdy Hospital in Attleboro & Norwood Hospital. I have 2 wonderful adult kids that I had with my ex-husband. My daugher's name is Suzanne & she is married to a wonderful guy. I can hardly wait to have a grandcfhi...Expand for more
ld but there's been no talk of that yet but I can still hope. My son's name is Jim & he is my oldest & he's a bachelor. He's dated many lovely young women but I guess that he's not ready for marriage. Both of my kids are college graduates & my daughter earned a Master's Degree in Education & English from Lesley University in Cambridge. My son earned his Bachelor's Degree in Busines from a private college in North Smithfileld RI., Bryant College is equavelent to Bentley in Boston. Both of my kids & son-in-law have fantastic jobs & are quite successful.Suzanne is a Special Needs Head Teacher in MA.Suzanne took many courses in Special Needs in college. My son-in-law is a Vice Principal. My son works in Canton & he's terrific with finances & marketing. Well, I think that I have bragged enough & maybe too much about my kids. I am enjoying my retirement & my husband is still working but I can hardly wait for him to retire. I hope to hear from many of you when you have the time.I'd like to hear how you are doing & about your families & friends.. Guy Ministeri., thank you for your letter. I enjoyed it very much. I would enjoy hearing from any of you that remember me, my family or my friends. Hi again to all. It is Friday, May 4th 2012. Do any of you know of a way that I can remove one of my 2 maiden names that I must have typed above? Have no idea the reason that my maiden name is up there twice. To quote something from my local paper is: 'Please be good to one another and try to do a good deed daily; try to remember the less fortunate, the hungry and the homeless, and over the next week try to contact an old friend with whom you've fallen out of touch. Peace..." I love that quote & it makes so much sense. We all know just how short life can be so if you have the chance, I think that it would be wonderful to do these things. I recently connected with two old friends who are now my old/new friends. It was so wonderful to see them again & we plan to continue to do so. A huge thank you to all of our veterans that served out wonderful country so that America can remain a free country. God Bless all of of veterans & those that gave the ultimate sacrifice, their lives. What a wonderful country that we live in. We all are blessed! Enjoy your lives & please try to make somebody happy today & every day of your lives. Naturally, I try to & usually do. Love to hear from any of you. If you haven't written your stories yet, would you please do so when you have the chance? I am happy to see that many of you have looked at my page but there's many that haven't written their stories. Naturally, it's enitirely up to you if you want to or not.. Of course I realize that we all have out seperate lives & families but I'd like to read about you & yours. Thanks!
