Carolynn's Story

Hi everyone. Before I give a run down on what I've been doing I want to say how sorry I am that I was not able to attend the last Reunion! I was soooooo P.O. ed that I couldnt go! I really wanted to see as many of you as possible! BUT......the week of the reunion I was injured at work and was awaiting to have major spinal surgery. So there was no way I was going to be able to come. HOPE IT WENT WELL AND EVERYONE HAD A GREAT TIME. Well after graduation I went to Brookdale and became yet again another cheerleader( I know you're shocked right? LOL). I worked a million crappy jobs and there was a time when I thought I was going to become a Paramedic. I had been a member of the Oakhurst First Aid Squad and really enjoyed the training and being able to help people. I got to know a bunch of cops and the more they talked about the job, the more interested I became. So.......I became a cop in 1983 and in 1984 I attended The New Jersey State Police Academy. And here was the beginning of an incredible career in law enforcement! I worked the road in uniform, ran my squad and had opportunites that were amazing. Thanks to two out of the three Chiefs of police I worked for in my dept, I was given amazing assignments! I did drug udercover work, where as an undercover operative I bought dope from dealers. my heart always was in patrol. Having the day to day contact with the community. Each and every day was differant and man I loved it!! I cant imagine ever having had picked another career. It truly was my calling! But.......during an arrest I was injured. I received a major bac...Expand for more
k and spinal injury. After a year of trying ever thing to remedy the problems, I had to have surgery. Spinal surgery. Scarest part, they tell you, you may not be able to walk. Damn. I also needed a second surgery on my left shoulder. But God willing all went well!!!! The worse part was that I had to retire. And let me tell you...my heart was broken! I loved my job and it ment everything to me! So now here I am at 49 testing the waters of retirement. There isnt a day that goes by that I wish things had been differant. I probably would have chosed to stay with the PD 30 yrs and not just these 25. On the personal side Im married to a State trooper who is the love of my life! I was thinking about the reunions and I missed the one in 1997 because the very nite of the reunion, my father passed away. The the most recent one I wasnt able to walk yet on my own and I 'd be damned if I was gonna show up pushing my walker!! Im still here in Jersey. But southern Ocean county. Family ties have kept me here, but as soon as Bob retires from the NJSP. WE ARE OUTTA THIS HOT MESS!!!! So..thats pretty much what Ive been up to. I have to say that I have nothing but the fondest memories of High School. I hope to reconnect with you. Lets chat and remember old times!! P.S. Holy Cow I cant believe we're almost 50!!!! YIKES! I always wanted to be a vet when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Harry Pembleton, because he was my first true love. Come chat with me on FB
