Carrie's Story

I started writing and I was only to 1988 and I already had more than I wanted to read about me. Here's the abridged version. I worked at the Nugget Gas Station on the corner of Centry and Paramount for about 3 years. From there I went the House of Fabrics at Lakewood Mall. Was there 3 years and got my own store at Buena Park Mall. Manage a HOF in Santa Anna, and Huntington Beach Mall as well. From there went to Coleco in Tustin, Portland Or., and Clearfield UT. senior inventory auditor. Moved to Sacramento and worked for Slakey Bros HVAC in charge of inventory information for 27 branches. Left there went back to So Cal. and worked for Modcraft setting modular school rooms. One of the best jobs ever..........except I got hurt, and found out I was pregnant within about 2 weeks of each other. Married the dad, Alex from Costa Rica. Three years and one more child and it was divorce for us. My kids were 2 and 10 months. So I did what any mom of two would do. Prostitution? No I went to school. I kind of did it all ass backwards but I did do it. I had a full time job, two little kids, and I kept up a 3.75. I even got a A in calculus. Yeah for me. I also had a wonderful mother who watched them so I could get an education and support them. Thank you mom. My last final was on a Wednesday and on the following Monday I started working for the Postal Service. Another excellent job if you work in a small office in the country. I've been there now for 16 years and I still love working there. I do go to other small offices which is fun as well. Lots of things have happened along the way. My very dear friend, Donna Thomley died from breast cancer. Cancer sucks. I lost my dad to a masive heart attack. He died in front of me and my children while we were bucking hay...Expand for more
in 1996. My daughter later told me what she remembered and she said, "Grandpa just stood up, the wind blew his hat off, and he fell over backwards" I hate that my daughter, at 7 years old, has to have that memory about any one let alone her grandpa. My kids have had difficulties because of this so I chose not to go for the career but to be the mom. It was too hard for me to do them both well. They needed a mom more than I needed to make alot of money. I had an excellent job with great pay and benefits and it let me work half to 3/4 time and still have plenty of money to raise my kids. My children and late husband are the reason I was able to handle that as well as I did. Ed was my center and my hero. As for the personal stuff, I met the man who was my center in 1978 while I was working at the Nugget Gas Station. I gave him my heart and he never gave it back. I had been married once and he had been married twice to the worng people and finally we make it right and married each other. I will keep all the details for myself but I will share that he passed away on August 13, 2004. I'm not sure I'm past it but I am moving in the right direction. He was my go to guy and with him gone I sometimes feel like I have no one to go to. Hope that makes sense to someone. I've said it before and I will probably say it again, death sucks when your the one left. Maybe it even sucks when your the one that goes. It would be wrong for me not to metion that one of the very best things is that Jill Stanoszek and I have been best friends for 50 years. That is no small thing. I love Jill dearly and treasure her friendship and I hope we have many more years. Of couse, as for everyone on here, there is so much more to the story and hopefully so much more to come. Carrie
