Wayne's Story
I retired from the Army in 95 and since then I have had 150 jobs, attended graduate school, and currently am kicking back...spending time with my kids..working on my home....riding my bike....just taking a breather. I have been working for the last five years in the oilfield, all over the U S...90 to 120 hours a week, working side by side with 22 to 35 year olds, driving 18 wheelers...slinging a sledgehammer, actually having a wonderful time challenging myself. I used to watch the million dollar man and think how far out that was...today I have more titanium joints in my body than he did I bet! hahahahah Jumping out of airplanes, running every day, motorcycle accidents, have taken a toll on me ...Expand for more
but thanks to modern medicine I am still able to lead from the front when I'm working with young men and women half my age, doing physically demanding work. So thank you God and also thank you U S Army surgeons. My grandmother is 105 and going strong..so I might have a few years left to ponder my existence! I still think the best way to live is to challenge yourself. I plan to get my nursing degree before I'm 65....and I have never given up on earning my black belt in karate...I just have a few belts to go...but it seems like an impossible goal with all the metal in my body!!...but like I read one time...I think Bobby Poling quoted it from somewhere..if you can dream it you can achieve it!!!
