Cassandra's Story
I only attended Chippewa for one year (1965-66), but it was pretty wild. I think it was considered a charter school that year... one of the first. Although I had a lot of fun, the freedom was slightly detrimental to me. I didn't apply myself and just sailed through. One of the teachers (U.S. Government class) didn't believe in grades, so he gave everyone an A at the end of the year. For a project that we had three months to do, I drew a cartoon of the signing of the Declaration of Independence...the night before. Of course I got an A on that too.

hyllis Gray and a handful of others during class (we were allowed out to do special projects or something). We just goofed off, basically. One day, Phyllis and I just went to Metro Beach for our "project." (We came back to school with the worst sunburn ever.) Sometimes we'd go to the cafeteria and play records over the sound system (if you could call it that). I discovered Bob Dylan at Chippewa, thanks to Wendy Stammen (sp?) and a guy whose name escapes me (he was very tall with a blond crewcut).
