Catherine's Story

How did we ever survive? Freshman algebra class was always an interesting class. I am not implying learning equations, per se. Sadly, our class was generally scheduled at the end of the day in the cafeteria building. You can probably imagine how productive we were! Our teacher, Mr. Robert (Bob) Yagge, and known by our class as "Mi-Yagge" was probably tagged this nick-name by Denise Tribout; but, who knows? But despite our silliness, I must state that in my opinion, he was truly a good teacher; albeit, the subject was not my favorite. As a teacher myself, I do know and can certainly appreciate the additional work involved via the teacher when ...Expand for more
you have that one "special" class. And if you are really unlucky, you are assigned more than one. :) Nevertheless, the class certainly had much laughter, and zaniness, that even the most forgetful should be able to recall. Fortunately for later generations, our teacher survived us all. ;) Just in case you need to be reminded: (x +1)(x + 2) x times x = x2nd x times 2 = 2x 1 times x = 1x 1 times 2 = 2 x2nd + 2x + 1x + 2 x2nd + 3x + 2 I rather solve the above formula (and those similar) than more advanced equations involving coefficients and cosigns ... yuck! Thank you Al-Khwarizmi and Diophantus for the most humbling of experience/s. :)
