Catherine's Story
Life
I have spent a great deal of my time since high school exploring new places and experiencing new things. I have become quite accustomed to doing things on my own. I learned quickly that if you wait for others to join you or follow through on promises, you've wasted precious time on experiencing some awesome moments. I've traveled so far to 23 states, and 12 countries. In 2002, I studied in Germany for a month and also visited Austria and France. Last summer, my daughter and I visited Italy and Greece, and this summer we will travel to England and France inspired by her Harry Potter and DiVinci Code reading interests (we are very excited). She also has visited 12 states and three countries so far, and she's only 13. Getting the first stamp on her passport was exciting! I love the outdoors and I become restless easily; my life necessitates "being on the go". Things I've experienced include, skiing, hot-air ballooning, surfing in Hawaii, kayaking at Lanikai, snorkeling, scuba diving in both Hawaii and the Caribbean, canoing in Oklahoma, hiking to the top of Diamond Head on New Year's Day, visiting 4 Hawaiian islands, standing at the edge of a volcano (only to have it erupt the next day), rainforests, Stanley Park in Vancouver, the colorful tulip fields of the Pacific Northwest, castles of Europe, the Eiffel Tower at sunset, Paris shopping & sidewalk cafes at midnight, Mozart Concert Salzburg, Austria (his birthplace), wine tasting at a medieval monastery, the salt mines of Germany, Pompeii, Rome and all it's wonders-the Sistine Chapel, Basilica, Coliseum, and my indescribable excitement to see Pope John Paul speaking to the people in St. Peter's Square, ahhh, and the fascinating ancient structures of Greece-the Parthenon, the Temple of Zeus, standing in f...Expand for more
ront of the site where the Olympic torch has been lit for centuries and personally running the length of the field used in ancient times at Olympia, Chicago snow, shopping on 5th Av NYC, Central Park carriage rides, the best cheese danish in the world on the Upper East Side, the Statue of Liberty (in heels-silly me!), ice skating at Rockefeller Center, Ground Zero, U.S. battlefields (it's ghosts-& getting lost in the middle of Gettysburg in the dark--spooky), Disney World 6 times, the Amish, meeting two of my Congressional representatives over the years(in Wash D.C. of course), seeing President Clinton and Mariah Carey up close and experiencing the camaraderie and emotional crescendo of the event-the National Police Memorial Ceremonies on the Capitol grounds, meeting Mel Gibson, Danny Glover and Richard Donner on the set of Lethal Weapon II, and one my daughter could kill me for...horseback riding on cliffs! I'm looking forward to someday diving the Great Barrier Reef, visiting China, and taking an African Safari. As you can see my travels are an important part of who I am. I may often venture out on my travels alone, but I return having made many friends that remain in my life. I love the title of a play I was once in..."You Can't Take It With You", and I tend to live that way. In the end, the monetary things we attain in our lives (no matter how nice, or its reflection of our self-worth) they are just "stuff". However, those extraordinary moments tacitly tucked away in our memory, last a lifetime. Hopefully we leave behind laughter, smiles, and a skip in the heart of those we were fortunate enough to meet. In spite of my wonderful opportunities of travel, my greatest gift is still my daughter, and it is her face that I wish to leave the biggest smile upon.
